is the CX 600 actually a good powersuply

They do cut corners in many areas. Are you actually looking to purchase it?

To put it simply no, none of the CX series PSUs are good, the 750 and 850w versions are the only exceptions that are actually decent.

being such a cheap powersuply surely they had to cut some corners

yeah they did, and it's not really a recommended power supply for high-medium builds

I can't speak for all of them, but I've had two running for about 4 years now.  One is an i5 4590 (The PSU has outlasted the motherboards that have been in the server) and the other is in an HTPC, i7 3770K powered.  However the server would likely need an upgrade once I add some more HDDs to it and a better graphics card, but that's wattage, not service life.

that's okay, but if it was an i7 4790k and a 980Ti then I'd rather not.... but for low end builds it's ok.

I don't think the high end or low end nature of the build matters.

it's basically unlucky people who seemed to get faulty PSUs, It is worth spending another 60$ to keep your system all good

It's not a shit firehazard like Raidmax or Diablotek garbage, it's more on the lower end of acceptable as long as you're not trying to run it too close to its rated power.

I run a 140W Xeon E5 overclocked and a 250W HD7950 also aggressively overclocked- I bench on this psu. Just fine. CX600M. 4 year old unit has seen many cpus @ 5ghz and dual 7950s.

My brother runs an 8320 and a gtx 480 on a cx430, admittedly both undervolted.

So yes from my experience they're not total garbage and are good for more than i3s/750tis but there are better psus for the money in 2016.

I have zero issues with my CX 600M in my Steam box (i5 4690k, Z87 Gryphon, Radeon HD 7950)

Forgive me El Guapo. I know that I, Jefe, do not have your superior intellect and education...

I concur.

I'm curious as to why the power supply isn't flipped down.

Honestly, they are fine.

Not the best, and corners were cut, but they wont start a fire or explode or anything.

If you dont run them at 100% all the time, you should be fine.
