Go with Intel, wait or if you're on a tight budget at least go with an FX-8350 and overclock it. 9590 is a waste of money and it doesn't even run at 5.0GHz. 5.0GHz is its boost frequency which in my book is actually a little misleading since its base frequency is 4.7GHz.

The 9590 is garbage, intel or wait are your only sound options, and personally I'd just go intel.

While the 9590 will be better than your current chip, it is not worth the money for itself, and the beefy cooling/ motherboards you will need.

Either wait for zen, or get an i5 now, because the high end amd chips do not compete with intel in regards to single core performance, which is what games need. TBH even in multi threaded workloads like cinnebench the 9590 is fairly neck and neck with my chip running at 4ghz, which is concerning since it is an 8 core chip running at 5ghz...

Well it has to be better than my x4 860k that I'm running now.....

Intel is so much dearer than the and lineup

A 9590, nice 990fx board and a solid cooler rated for 220w (ideally a 240mm aio) will run you the same as an Intel setup to be honest.

Edit: as you've noticed.

the 4690k would be the better option, the 9590 isn't really viable outside of virtualisation and 3d work (even then there's better options).

Intel Core i5 4690k would be a better option for now.

Or wait for Zen.

I have a GTX960 :)

Yeah maximum of a GPU for the 860k not to bottleneck.

If you really want to upgrade for cheap an Intel i5 4460 and a ASRock H97M Anniversary LGA 1150 Intel H97 for $250 will do you good.

A GTX 960 should get 1080p 60fps on medium/high setting for all games, with an i5.

I would rather see you go Skylake i3 than go for that stupid CPU, as much as it is faster than your current CPU, it also uses a stupid amount of power, i could expect it from Phenom II/ Core i7 Nehalem era CPU's, but not from 32nm chips, Bulldozer and Vishera were never looked upon for efficiency ever.

Stay with your CPU until Zen which is what i am doing, or go Skylake.
