I just got really excited until I realized the reason the computer was messed up was the hard drive

I presume he's building it for gaming, not audio editting (because that's all macs are good for at this point)

For cheep i would say get a OEM copy of Win 8 or 7. For free the only thing i can think of is.....PIRATE...DON'T DO IT, ITS ILLEGAL. BTW, i think some colleges give you a free copy if you study in certain computer science programs/courses.

If you are a college student you can use Microsoft Dreamspark if your school offers it, Dreamspark is awesome for MS software and you can pick up anything from Windows XP to a Full Windows 8 copy for free, not to mention Visual Studio :P

Get an unopened second hand license. I got Windows 8 Pro 64bit OEI version for half of the retail price.

But, beparanoid. Ask the seller abour everything. Also, ask for detailed pictures. Do it.
