AMD AIBs Prepare Cost Effective Radeon R9 390 Models With 4 GB Memory

Mr_Troll

I wish they would have just released the 390 as a 4GB card from the beginning instead of having to pay a hefty premium for the extra 4GB that's pretty much useless today. I mean no one is going to tell me they'd rather have a 390 8GB over a Fury are they?

Lol the 390 8gb wasn't even pricey to begin with.

I dont follow.

a 4gb r9 390 would own a 380x in performance, if the price is too close the 380x won't make sense. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, it's just a weird move. as for the r9 290, if you take away the 8gb of vram it's pretty much identical to a 390, save some better memory and higher clocks - if r9 290s are considerably cheaper than a 390, that may also not make a ton of sense.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

According to the article, they will be going for $299. A 380x is $233.

380 = $200

380X = $240

390 (4GB) = $270?

390 (8GB) = $300?

The urge to buy up will be strong.

Honestly, I'd rather fork over the extra ~$30 bucks and get the 8 gig.

It was $90 more than the 290.

Which 390 and which 290?

When they launched at $330 you could find most 290s for $240.

Nah. If by "most" you meant 2nd tier 290s then no. You don't count things like that. I have seen that TuboDuo 290 going for outrageously low prices. But that card won't cool itself properly at anything over stock speeds.  Go check out the PCS+ 390. When they launched, they didn't even cost that much.

The price difference between a decent 290 and a decent 390 is what would have been if AMD released a 8GB 290. That's why people even recommended those.

I like the look of the Power Color, it feels like a cross between Nvidia reference and Asus DCU2 7970, my two favorite cooler shrouds ever.

It looks like it will be another Chinese exclusive, why is AMD so China ordinated? I don't get it.

Mostly because it's a HUGE exploding market. As the Chinese economy expanded in the late 2000's, literally millions of people suddenly became "middle class" and could start to afford more luxury purchases.

But why ignore other markets for the r9 390 4GB?

I remember the Tri-X going for $240, the PCS+ also, not just the crappy cards like the Turbo Duo, the IceQx2, or the Direct CUII.

Those cards were after a hell load rebates. I remember recommending a PCS+ 290 even after the 390 came out. The exact price of that card is $289.99

The PCS+ was on sale all the time way lower than that. And all AMD cards in the 200 series had a ton of rebates.

Many of the cards are always on rebates. Including the 390. $90 difference is too much of an over exaggeration.

I don't remember many rebates on 390s until about a month after it launched.

There were some, but not on all cards. PCS+ and Msi cards. They went for around 300. $90 difference is exaggerating it by alot.

Basing price of a new product off the sale price of an old one. You're a business genius.
