I dont know, I have a twisted mind but if I put myself in the mindset of a terrorist reading this news article and I'm planning something, this just became a super easy target.

Have fun signing away your freedoms for nothing then I guess. He's just a comedian.

This is not about freedom, you have the freedom to choose if you want to attend a show where you can't use your phone. It's like not being able to bring your own food to the movies, rules like this ones in private establishments are in no way an attempt at your freedom

 

Filming comedians shows is a huge problem because if a joke is not finished and you are still working on it, you don't want it to be public. That's why stand up specials exists, if someone posts a joke you were working on online, now you can't use that joke on your special.

Great idea. Now all you need is an emergency or some kid who works there that doesn't lock the box and steals hundreds of photos and texts.

What about Dave Chappelle's freedom to keep his own performance exclusive to the people paying for it? He is the one giving the show... I went to a Kevin Hart show and respect the fact that he enforced no cell phones, in which the people using their cell phone gets kicked out with no refund or anything.

This is not about freedom, you have the freedom to choose if you want to attend a show where you can't use your phone. It's like not being able to bring your own food to the movies, rules like this ones in private establishments are in no way an attempt at your freedom

Filming comedians shows is a huge problem because if a joke is not finished and you are still working on it, you don't want it to be public. That's why stand up specials exists, if someone posts a joke you were working on online, now you can't use that joke on your special.

They're public venues, at least here in Canada, which affords me different privileges than than in a truly private(which in Canada means non commercial) venue. And a cell phone/pager isn't on the same level as food. People work important jobs where they need to be in contact. Its inane to claim they should just not go to something because of it. If recording stuff is a problem, then kick people out who are using their phone inside the venue. Its not hard to figure out who is doing it.

If I need to answer the phone, I check who's calling and get up and leave anyway if I have to take it. This is the appropriate action, and if I'm talking on it or using it during the show kick me out.

I understand your point but you are a reasonable person that would either ignore the call or go outside to talk, some people, especially drunk ones usually just pick up their phone.

Other problem with kicking people out is that if you are serving food or drinks to somebody and you kick them out, that bill doesn't get paid, this makes club or venue managers not want to kick people out unless there is a mayor problem

One other thing, even if the venues are public, the event is not. You need a ticket to get in and whenever you buy a ticket for something you are agreeing to the terms set by the production agency.

My personal autonomy is more important than "rules" at a comedy show. Just because its a rule, doesn't make it a good one, or enforceable, or worthy of respecting.

I would love this if it was used in more areas. A cellphone screen is extremely distracting no matter how low you set the screen brightness at a movie or liver performance. Kicking people out is also very disruptive as quite a few people would resist.

Should have these in theaters. 

 

People need to learn to defend themselves and stop relying on army men to protect you once you're shot. Takes several minutes for them to arrive anyway. We've already come to the conclusion that government funded men in armor and guns aren't always mentally stable either.
