Looking for a card

I'm looking for a graphics card for my virtual machines, unfortunately I'm working with quite a lot of restraints and my knowledge about these older cards is limited.

The card I'm looking for needs the following:

  • Single slot card
  • No additional power needed
  • As much VRAM as possible (preferably 4GB but at least 2GB)
  • Must have OS support as far back as Windows 7 but as far back as XP would be prefered while still supporting a modern OS as high as 10 and possibly Linux as well

It doesn't matter to me if the card is a professional card or gaming card, both should handle what I need them to do (video acceleration, rendering assistance and light retro gaming). I don't care which vendor makes the card, though an issue I'm having seems to be AMDs drivers just... suck... I have a test system up and I'm trying to get an HD6450 working in XP and the drivers are failing because they are not signed.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 1050ti, which fits your description, and it still can play some games just fine, while barely costing anything used

there should be at least one RTX card that's single slot too I believe, don't know which one though and if it's cheap

A Quadro K2200 would be a 4gb card you could mod a Nvidia driver version, I think 361 something, to work in XP, and windows 10.

An M2000 is a newer 4gb card where you couldn’t modify the drivers to work on xp, but has native support for 7 and current drivers.

Both are single slot and slot power only.

Otherwise there are 4gb gt 730’s which will do what you need, with XP and somewhat current driver support.

Probably, but that's the first thing I thought of

I wouldn't trust GT 730 with:

I bought a used K2200 and an M2000, however the M2000 still looks like it might not fit. It's going inside a 1U server and there is basically no extra space with a card that strictly adheres to the 1 slot form factor, the M2000 looks like it is 1.5 slots?

Also bought two Pascal Quadros just in case but I'm probably not going to use them just because of compatibility.

The 730 was a consideration but I don't think it is a good fit for what I'm trying to do. If I just needed a card for VMs to do some retro gaming I would have grabbed one though.

The M2000 is distinctly 1 slot.
