Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

I'm in the same boat as you. My sister upgraded from a Radeon HD 6850 to a GTX 960 (guess who installed it) to play Fallout 4 recently and is using a monitor with only a VGA output.

These girls *holds in a tear*... they don't know what they are missing *cries*

I'd get my wife an Android, because she's been using Windows Phone for too long. "It's smooth and works" she says. Yeah, because it doesn't do anything.

The huawei p8 lite is a good candidate.

I would dolphinitely get a ZOTAC ZBOX for my sister and her husband who only knows how to use a Xbox, but they want a PC for photography work and gaming. Also I'd eventually get one for my dad and my mom (who has only ever used a Mac) to share, since her current MacBook is about to be ripperoni.

My mum has been looking at a new motherboa...... jk she doesn´t even know what´s inside a pc

Anyway I wanted to buy a tablet for her but I also want to keep saving my money so I guess the Nvidia Shield tablet K1 is a nice bit of kit in my opinion and a nice present.

Specificaly the controller bundle since she would like to start gaming on her free time but apparently she can´t think of how to use a keyboard to play games.

This is not my gift selection, this is a contribution to the discussion about when the contest closes, and some advice to people picking Asus routers...

My gift selection post is here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/498047-tech-gifts-for-non-techies-giveaway/page-102#entry6733407

The contest is still open until they make an announcement or it reaches midnight Pacific Time. If they wait until the day is officially over before choosing, then everyone still has 11 hours, as of the time I posted this (3pm-ish, Central Time.) (Not an LMG employee, by any stretch. This is my educated guess.)

Hi guys, thank you for your generosity :) I would like to give my parents (and whole our family) a new router , because the old one makes trouble for them while talking to relatives via Skype (it cuts the words and decreases the voice quality so the conversation becomes non-understandable) or trying to browse the internet while being 10 meters further than router (it takes very very long time to load up a page :( ) Heres the LINK- http://www.amazon.ca/RT-AC87U-WLS-RTR-100-1000/dp/B00MPI5N7U/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1450025579&sr=8-9&keywords=asus+router. Thanks again, and good luck, Merry oncoming Christmas and a Happy New Year  everyone!!! :)

Just some personal insight... Asus makes killer hardware, but their router firmware is horrendous!

We have had major problems with our Asus router. It will de-sync, forget settings, and just be a pain in general.

When we updated the firmware we LOST features, and then had a series of OTHER problems.

Every single update we have tried has been an absolute fail, and we are going to be switching back to a Netgear or something very soon.

Avoid these things until Asus has figured their crap out. lol

For reference, the one we have is the AC56R: http://www.amazon.com/RT-AC56R-Gigabit-Router-802-11ac-Wireless-AC1200/dp/B00LR4OF5Y

Newer models may have improved, but I am not holding my breath.

Also, we are power users, so someone who has no need for the advanced features may not experience our troubles, but we even had problems with basic things like: network storage and printers, gaming consoles being dropped randomly, and inconsistent wireless strength. So, if you are just looking for a "set it and forget it" solution (which is what this giveaway is supposed to be about, after all,) go with Netgear.

My Grandpa who will be 98 years old next month, surprisingly is big on tech (he built his own PC and owns 3 different tables).  But he still has a love for old school tech as well.  I think this would be the perfect blend for his music needs (mixing old school tech with modern)
