Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

See... This is a great giveaway idea. Just watched the video, after binging on your moving series over the last couple days (I do have a life, lol) but have been a long-time viewer.

In any case, I guess that would depend on the scenario. I have several friends who are non-techy, but my mom seems to be the furthest behind in this regard. She, like Linus's parents, was absolutely wonderful when I was a kid. She made sure we were always staying ahead of the curve, and allowed me to become the fountain of tech-troubleshooting-knowledge that I am today. Despite not having a lot of money, she felt it was important to make sure we had the things we needed to keep up in the 80's and 90's. We were the first family to have internet (which, unlike Linus, I was so NOT bored to check out, lol) and I very quickly discovered all the joys, and pitfalls, of it. Looking back, I find it amazing that she did this, because she hardly ever used it and I will be forever grateful for having such a tool available to me in my early years. She has not kept up since I moved out of the house though, and only this year finally started using the HD (tiny 19") TV that I gave her when I bought my 42" replacement. I gave it to her in 2011, lol.

So... What could I get her that she would love, understand, AND use? Well... Since I gave her a Samsung Galaxy S5 last November (2014) she has fallen in love with smart-devices, and has a willingness to use them. This means I could finally fill a void that she has had for quite a number of years. You see, she loves music. I clearly remember the giant rack-stereo that took up a large spot in our living room growing up, and her MASSIVE collection of cassette tapes, records, and even 8-tracks. That system eventually died, and she ended up buying a cheap little radio with multiple speakers that filled a need, but didn't really make up for the loss of the rack system. To top that off, she doesn't have a Blu-ray player, and that is simply unacceptable these days. I would pick something she can use, which fills both those needs, and won't be a nightmare for me to fix if something goes wrong.

That leads me to the Sony BDVE3100 5.1 Home Theater System.

It gives her plenty of power to turn the volume up if she wants to listen no matter where she is in her house, along with Blu-Ray, and the ability to play music from her phone through Bluetooth. It really would be the perfect gift for her, while not being too expensive and only requires a one-time setup and teaching session. I don't expect to win this, but it would be amazing for her if I do. Thank you for doing this, as I am sure you will make Christmas very special for the three lucky people who manage to get chosen. I love it.

Good luck everyone, and congrats ahead of time to the winners!

I chose my Dad to potentially receive a gift from Linus because my dad is the perfect candidate and meets the criteria for a couple reasons. My dad is the most tech-UN-savy person there is. Despite showing him how many times, he still brings his cellular phone to us to show him how to enter a new number. At the same time, he feels the need to go through the settings and change/mess with things, then he comes to us to undo whatever he did, and my brother and I begrudgingly play chicken with who's going to fix it, lol. Now, my dad hates computers, he has said many times we'd be better off if they never existed and he only had to use the one for work back when he was working. My brother showed him a game on his(my brother's) iphone, and my dad really liked the game. He asked us to get him a e-reader that year and when we him a Kindle and he liked it. It's one of the few things we've gotten him that didn't end up in a drawer somewhere(like my old 30gb ipod, digital camera, digital camera printer he never touched, etc). The problem is, I think he was disappointed that when he asked if he could play that game one it and we told him no I don't think so. I would love to make it up to him if he could win This pad:

Thanks for considering my dad for the giveaway, and Thanks for doing the giveaway!

Sincerely,

Shawn

Mom could use some good speakers. She enjoys movies but only uses cheap headphones and speakers. I've offered better ones but she won't accept anything she knows cost more than $20 and says she's fine. <_< But we know better. ^_^

http://www.amazon.com/Bose-Companion-Multimedia-Speaker-System/dp/B0053T4PHC - These would be great. Winning stuff bypasses the "you spent how much?!" bit, so lets see if it works out. Thanks for the opportunity.  :)

This gift is for my brother.  Ever since I built my gaming computer a while back my twin brother wanted one.  Last year I built him one, but he never got a monitor.  He is currently using a 720p 30HZ Westinghouse tv as his gamming monitor.  He doesn't seem to mind, but when I watch him play I go nuts over it.  I think he just doesn't know what he is missing.

I want to get my dad a nice pair of headphones! He's always listening to music from his Nexus 5 speakers so I'd like to get him some audio-technica ATH-M50x headphones. Arguably overkill for his usage but I think he deserves it haha.

I would gift my brother a decent racing wheel. The guy loves racing on pc (standard HP ofcourse #worth), but does it with the arrow keys. To be honnest, I don't even know if he KNOWS there is something like racing wheels)

This goes to show not every gamer is a techie. That's why I'd make his life more fun on project CARS with the thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel Ferrari 458 Italia Edition

Thank you for this awesome giveaway!
This christmas I would love to be able to give my little sister an Nvidia Shield Tablet and controller bundle. She's a freshmen in highschool and could really use a nice tablet help with her homework. She's fairly into gaming and a huge fan of open world games. I know she'd love to stream some of my games to her tablet while im at work or at school. Most importantly however, her love for gaming has been because of amazing content creators on youtube and I think she'd really enjoy a device to call her own.

Win or Lose, i'd like to thank the amazing content creators at Linus Media Group for keeping me up at 12AM to watch new videos and for this giveaway. Happy Holidays

My sister has an iPhone 5( or 5s maybe) and tends to bend her cord so much she needs to replace them every other month or so; this leads to either me doing a make-shift fix with my poor soldering skillz, or her buying another expensive cord for $20~30.

Due to my attempts of having her switch to an android being futile, I would get her this;

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F5MAL3E/ref=s9_al_bw_g107_i4

It's a wireless charging pad that would eliminate the constant abuse of her cord.

I would get her this one - compared to others - because although it would allow wireless charging, she might sometimes want to watch a movie in her bed, with a dead battery, and this charger also allows direct charging. It also still allows audio jack accessibility.

EXTRA NOTE FROM A PROFESSIONAL BUTT FACE: Looking at some people above, it kinda sounds like a lot of you guys just want stuff 4 yo slef...... "I would get my sister an Nvidia SHIELD Tablet..." "I would get my bro a racing wheel"... mmhm.... sure.... "sister" "brother"..... Not saying you guys ain't legit, just doesn't sound like it....

(Some people sound legit btw.... these were just examples of those guys who weren't)

Have you tried turning it off, and turning it back on again?

I'm not sure if my family members would qualify. The one I'm aiming for is an old man, but he is really into tech-related stuff and I would say more then I am into.

There are two things I would like to give him. One is the serious gift he needs and the other one is the gift he would laugh and then gradually get pissed off. :D

1. Corsair Dominator Platinum Series 32GB. The reason for this is because my old man is doing a black/white build and for that sale... That is a great deal for the prize.

2. By context, this is tech... very annoying tech, but tech none the less! For my torment to him, I would like to give him The Infinite Christmas Card. It's all in the name. I wish the 5 hours of torment this card gives to be great on him... B)

The Links to both the deals.

http://www.jokergreeting.com/collections/greeting-card/products/joker-christmas-card?variant=1289231297

(P.S. I realize the second gift isn't from an amazon website. I would give you the one, but unfortunately for that card in particular does have an amazon site, but it says that it doesn't know when or if the item will be in stock. So if you need the amazon one, here you go, but can you try your best to get the Christmas one instead?)  http://www.amazon.com/Joker-Birthday-Card-Prank-Musical/dp/B010CFEBF2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1450014005&sr=8-1&keywords=joker+greeting+card

CHANGE IN EDIT: I realized that I can't get the second gift because that would be above the price range. So we'll stick with the first one instead. I'll get the second one with my own money and annoy him that way xD

(If you hate it - Actually, please don't hit me. If you like it - You know what to do.)

"By you, who used to be my good provider,

My secret nourisher, and mine alone.

The strength you taught me I must used against you,

And now with all my strength I wish you gone."

Then she, my enemy, and still my angel,

Said in that harsh voice that once was sweet:

"I will come back, and every time less handsome,

And I will look like Death when we last meet."

I would like to give to my dad a good tablet, because every day he go to work by bus and I want to give him something where he can read the newspaper or reading a book (because he likes reading very much). So i think the Nvidia Shield is the perfect tablet for him (not very expensive, with a good display, updated and fast)

The link is http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0171BS9CG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1450015241&sr=8-1π=SX200_QL40&keywords=nvidia+shield&dpPl=1&dpID=41E%2BkRB1irL&ref=plSrch

Thanks a lot

(Sorry for bad english ;) )

My dads laptop is extremely slow, and i've found out its because his hard drive is almost gone. We've backed up everything, and I told him i'll get him a new hard drive. It would be nice to get him a new SSD, and make his laptop a lot faster than before.
