How off-topic is off-topic?

So under the Off-Topic sub forum it says "Non-tech related content only please!"

But when you read the off topic guidelines it stated " At all times though, this is a tech centered and focused forum."

In confused...is off topic anything that doesn't fall into the other categories but is tech related or is it really "off-topic"?

I don't like 2D games...I just couldn't get into them.. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Sometimes I think "anything goes", but sometimes mods lock thread because it wouldn't be fit for this community..

i don't really know ; it seems that that's where all the topics that can't find a subforum go to.

But i think you can post non tech related stuff there , like linus memes and talk about cars

I think non-tech related stuff is generally alright, but certain posts that don't breed discussion at all and would be more worthy of status updates than anything are generally locked. Those types of posts get derailed and usually go so far off-topic that they really aren't appropriate for this forum at all.

Also, if anyone has their mind corrupted by an anthropomorphic black latex bat, please let me know. I would like to join you.

theres a fine line between "off-topic" and shitposting.  and a lot of things belong in a status update, and dont need an entire thread about it.

Posting in off topic is always risky business on this forum.

Some have taken it upon themselves to call anything posted in off topic a "Shitpost"

In most cases the threads are at the mercy of the whims of the moderators.

 

I just think the rules of the off topic section are like the scoring rules on Qi.

maybe a little clarity is needed.

 

Off-Topic is for non-Tech related discussions.

really wasn't devised to be used for status update, dropping anything that has

no discussion by the community, sensational titles with no substance, or just

plain nulled thoughts.

 

we encourage creating threads in a responsible and mature with a driven idea

of having a discussion on that thread.

 

posting a thread that you "drew a picture of your hand" really isn't a discussion

topic and would prolly be locked on being pointless.

 

hope this helps in promoting a clearer understanding of what Off-Topic subforum

should be used for, rather than post something and grumble that your hand picture

thread got locked and create a rant thread for something that should have been

understood before the hand picture thread was created.
