first thing wrong here is the use of an unlocked I7 with the EVO. its a great cooler, but liquid is definitely the way to go.

For gaming, 6700k all the way, for streaming, production software or server stuff, 5820k all the way

6 cores > 4 cores

ezpz

That's literally it. There's nothing more that can be said.

6 cores of the same strength, to 4 cores of the same strength.

Not even a question. ddr4 is no faster than ddr3 in any games, and a majority of programs.

Yeah, he told me he was buying an H100i GTX regardless of the platform after I'd completed the builds.

Okay so as far as speed goes it's: 5820k > 6700k > 4790k.

As far as price/performance ratio goes it's: 4790k > 5820k >>>>>>>> 6700k

If you need a powerful CPU, the 5820k is the way to go, if you can get by with a mainstream i7, get the 4790k. Ignore the 6700k, it's garbage right now. (not talkin about performance, but more about the pricing and its spot on the market)

--quote from @Morgan MLGman  A previous thread on this topic, for gaming the 6700k and 4790k are slightly better than the 5820k but not by much, and not at all if the game supports more than 4 cores/ 8 threads

ok, good.

anyways, IMO,  The 6700k is the better option because of its better single-threaded performance. it IS an I7, it still has 8 threads. for streaming/gaming with a bit of WKstation stuff in the middle, i think it is the better choice.

if one is doing solely WKstation stuff, then yeah, X99 all the way

6700k i have seen go between $320 and $450 in the past 3 weeks, it seems that stores cannot get enough of them, they keep going out of stock.

at the right time, the 6700k is a great deal, but at the wrong time its price approaches the 5930k

That is true, pricing is all over the place right now, I just figured I'd put this out there for reference as I liked the explanation

IMO 4790k is still the best gaming CPU out there if budget is a factor

It really depends on what he'll be doing on it. For games-6700k all the way. For productivity or for a cpu meant to last like 10 years... 5820k. Is he caught in the 170 > 99 train so z170>x99?

The cheapest I saw a 6700k in recent weeks online was $415.99, MicroCenter had in-store price of $349.99. I also saw a 5930k for about $419.00 I think.

Wish I had saw that, I'm making a Skylake mini-ITX build and I just need a CPU. I kind of don't want to go to an i5 from an i5.

Nah, if we're talking gaming only, an i5-4690k would probably be better price/performance wise. Out of the three i7's I agree.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

Also I have been debating about my pc for over a year and considering my rig is now 5 years old it is time to upgrade. I was going to go with a xeon for awhile but Ive decided on one of these 2 options.

Yes the 6700k is better for gaming mainly due to the fact that the single core performance is practically the same and it usually it is cheaper.
