4790k vs 6700k vs 5820k

i just bought a 6700k @26500 rs and they had 5820k for like 28 something.

May I know where did you get it? Online I can't find it anywhere below ₹32500

Hi, this is my first post in this forum.

Soon I am building a pc, I am based in India. Here a 4790k costs about 410usd, 6700k 510usd and 5820k about 480usd.

I will be doing some video editing, major Lightroom and PS work and some gaming on this machine. GPU is finalised on GTX 970 as I can't get hold of r9 380 easily.

So my question is how much performance will I lose if I go with 4790k rather than 5820k? As along with chip cost, the X99 board is costing me double of z97. I will be using this machine for next 3-4 years.

6700k isn't even a viable option imo

 

If you can scrape up the money for 5820k get that otherwise 4790k is the way to go, the performance difference in video editing  performance Idk it isn't as high of a clock as a 4790k (even if both OCed the 4790k will likely get higher clocks) so 30% more performance from the 5820k is a likely number, it maybe more or less but that's how I'd call it

Or you could wait for the 6800k. Or you could wait for the 6800k to come out and then get a 5820k as the price may fall. If you need it now I think the 5820k has a lot of advantages for your workload if you can afford it.

If you need a powerful CPU, the 5820k is the way to go, if you can get by with a mainstream i7, get the 4790k. Ignore the 6700k, it's garbage right now. (not talkin about performance, but more about the pricing and its spot on the market)

The 4790K (asuming stock speeds on both CPU's) will perform better than a 5820K In games. However for video editing etc, the 5820K will be better, you simply need to prioritize.

Thanks. I am also thanking between 4790k and 5820k. The issue is this setup is costing around 180usd more. So I might get a gtx 960 4gb and 5820k. Is this good option? Majority of the work is Lightroom and photoshop. Both can benefit from the 12 threads. Then only question remains is how good is 960 4gb for 1080p?

But 4790K is best bang for buck of the TRIO but these are both better...

No 960. R9 380 beats it at the same price point. 4GB.

Yes, 620W would be enough for that, but it needs to be a quality unit

Not to mention that every 5820K seems able to do 4.5GHz at 1.3 volts (if not lower).

5820k or 4790k .

The 5820k will help you a LOT with the extra cores , but if you can't afford it , the extra 100$ for the 6700k isn't worth it.

Yes its a seasonic one. Prior I was going for Corsair CC or VS. Now I can get the S12II 620. And yes I am planning for overclock the 5820K. So I guess at 4-4.4 GHz it will perform similarly to 4790k single core wise.

Not to mention that every 5820K seems able to do 4.5GHz at 1.3 volts (if not lower).

Performance-wise, the short answer:

 

5820k>6700k>4790k

 

The 6700k can in some cases outperform the 5820k in gaming due to the higher clocked cores. But the 5820k will murder the 6700k in multi-threaded applications which are becoming more and more the norm now.

 

The 4790k while falling behind both in terms of performance, is actually a really solid choice and has great value for the price, considering you don't have to buy X99/Z170 motherboards or DDR4 ram for it. And it will still perform great for the next few years, especially for gaming, since it also has high clocked cores.

 

I still can't find much value for the 6700k, though, given its price I'd say either go with 5820k if you want the extra horsepower for other uses or with the 4790k for the best VfM in gaming.
