why dont they sell 700 series gpu anymore will the same thing happen to 900 after pascal

pagani123

so just wondering why they dont sell the older gpu at reduced price like they do with processors? and i thinking about getting some 900 series for dedicated folding rig but i was going to wait until pascal for a lower price on them. should i just buy them now or will they continue to sell them at a lower price after pascal launch?

thanks

There are barely any new 700 series GPU's left and stores are too lazy/whatever to reduce the prices. Chances are high it will happen with the 900 series too, when Pascal comes out. Stores will have some cards left, but not reduced prices. This has always happened, from 600 to 700 series as well

Yes eventually they will stop selling new 900 series cards. They just do this so they can promote their new line as much as possible. You can still buy the 700 series used fairly easily though. Heck there are some used 780 tis on Ebay that will work perfectly fine and sell for 300 bucks, which is significantly less than the 980 for very similar performance. So yes, if you wait for pascal then the 900 series will drop greatly, but only if you're okay buying them used (or refurbished).

in many cases the prices in store and online retailers even increase...why?! because some people are willing to pay good money for a brand new GTX 780ti for example to run in SLI...and old CPU...well it's the same...they are slowly phasing out and soon will be unavailable and they also sell for more money (look at the price for an i7-3770K for example...even used those still go for like 300$+ online) because many people with older motherboard and a core i3 of some sort for example are willing to pay good money for an upgrade where they would not need a new motherboard.

It probably will happen, but not until 2018.

Pascal is supposed to launch Q3~4 2016.... I'd expect the Maxwell equivalents to stop being produced by Q2 2017 MAX.
