Upgrade Help from fx-6350 and Strix 960

So here's my current build:

fx-6350 with stock cooler

asus strix gtx 960 2gb

8gb vengeance ram

120gb ssd

1tb 7200rpm hdd

asus am3+ mobo

corsair spec-03 case

corsair 750w psu

25" 1080p monitor

It works nice now other than the cpu fan being loud as balls, but for christmas this year i wanted to upgrade to 1440p gaming,

my budget is probably around $500 for hardware, what upgrades would be most worth it? a 970 and an i5? or would the 6350 be fine

for now?

Thanks and any help is appreciated

If you can spend a little more, I'd say go for an i5 4690k and a 390

A bit over budget but it's worth it but push come to shove and you can't afford, you could probably get away with a FX for 1440p

Is the 390 going to be better fps per dollar because of the 8gb of vram? and do you know if they run hot?

and If I were to upgrade to an i5 right now from my fx and keep the 960 would i have fps increase? thanks

If you use more then 3.5GBs of VRAM then yes. Games like GTA 5 and shadow of morder use a lot of VRAM.

Yes the 390 runs hot, it's a AMD card. As long as your case breathes it will be fine.

Yes, i5 will have a higher and more stable FPS because intel CPUs have higher IPS then AMD. Provided that the GTX 960 is not the bottleneck.

Depends on the cooler - a Sapphire Nitro 390 runs cooler than 70*C - Ask @App4that

A Asus 390 runs at 90*C
