Opinions on this PC?

DGaming

What are your opinions on this PC? For maxing games out at 1080p for the next couple of years with no problem :)

Case: NZXT S340

Mobo: MSI Z97 PCMATE

CPU: Intel core i7-4790

RAM: 16GB (4x4) Corsair vengeance pro 1866MHz

GPU: MSI Radeon R9 390X 8GB or EVGA GTX 980 4GB

HDD: 1TB

SSD: 120GB

PSU: 750W EVGA Supernova G2

Also, which GPU do you think is better for that? MSI R9 390X 8GB or EVGA GTX 980 4GB ?

Well a bigger SSD would be nice (240-250gb)

ï7 not required but good, skylake i5 would be better

750w is overkill unless you want SLI/Crossfire

16gb ram is good but you can save money by going 8gb

R9 390X would be better since its cheaper with similar performance and better performance in dx12 tests

you may want to get an unlocked CPU and another mobo maybe. and 750W is a bit too much you can get some money back ?

Since you aim to game on it try getting a skylake i5 you don't need a i7 in most games, anyhow for 1080p the 980 is better but its pricer.

Go for a newer Skylake based system. About the same price, but newer.

i7 4790k | GTX 970 | 16GB

That's all you need to know. It's a beast.

1. Are you doing video editing? If not, only get 8GB of RAM.

2. R9 390x is better because of its extra VRAM.

3. Get a Xeon 1231. It's an i7 at the price of a i5 without an iGPU.

If it were me, assuming that you're trying to budget stuff out, I would drop the 16GB memory and go for 8 for now (you won't really need more than that right now) and get an unlocked CPU instead - if you're wanting an i7 anyways. You can get an unlocked i5 and be perfectly fine with gaming.

The 6600k has better single core, but a lot of games are using more than 4 threads and the 4790k pulls ahead of it in performance. Don't waste money on a 390x, it's marginally better than a 390 but costs much more. Step up to a Fury or stick to a 390.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Why are you asking for advice if you're not building now?

I'd just like to know if that build is good enough for 1080p maxing out games for the next couple of years with no problem :)
