Games and Meds

This has been bugging me for a while now.

Games like Fallout 3, State of Decay, and Left 4 Dead have this crunchy sound effect whenever you take pills.

How many of you chews pills or meds ?

I normally just let it flow with water.

 

Am I weird ? Am I ?!

Some meds you have to chew.

Maybe you have to chew them so it gets consumed by the body quicker.

When I or anyone I know take medicine (tablets or capsules) we never chew it.

Yet in the games stated there is a "crunch".

Kinda annoyed me so I thought I'd ask here to see if were doing it wrong

Most are just swallowed with water, though some require chewing. It really just depends on the medication.

Let me explain.

When I or anyone I know take medicine (tablets or capsules) we never chew it.

IRL I prefer to just swallow the medicine as fast as possible, usually with water, as most of the time it tastes disgusting. I have had to chew a few pills tho. (no, not viagra)

I feel like it's because in games like left 4 dead you are in a life death situation and don't need the luxury of water to take a pill. Example irl when someone is having a stroke and they need aspirin they always chew it, you don't have time for water and it works much quicker (so i've been told) when you chew it.

 

So basically it's because game characters are bad ass.

Quick google search essentially says:

Swallow: Provides a constant dosage over a extended period of time, Like Aleve that provides 12 hours of painkilling, you swallow that pill. It gives you 220mg of medication over the course of 12 hours.

Chew: Give you the entire dosage in one minute, which is why you chew Gravol and Asprin.
