because legacy, it super hype!

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

I wanted to say a million things to this but honestly just go on the website and read/watch some more. It seems like you were expecting to see the entire scope of star citizen by watching one cinematic designed to showcase one of the actors in Squadron 42 single player.

Start with the stretch goals- https://robertsspaceindustries.com/funding-goals

Also its in pre-alpha. nothing is going to look final atm so your assessment of mediocre while a little unfair is probably accurate just in that there really isnt much of anything yet and that kind of makes sense based on its stage of development. But it will be great. It will be a game that raises the standard of games. You will see.

i mean i get how ambitious it is but from what ive seen (and i haven't seen much) it looks pretty mediocore (do note that ive only seen Gary Oldmans speech)

why all this hype?

What are you talking about? You didn't really say, and I know nothing about this hype you speak of. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh star citizen, (lol it's the subforum) yes it has too much hype and if it doesn't live up to that hype kickstarters will be a thing of the past most likely

Rule 1:

Assume everyone can read your mind and knows exactly what you're talking about.

Simple point of common sense #1:

Actually check the subforum, or any other indicator blatantly on the page before assuming or guessing anything.

Also inb4 all other lemmings pop in to increase their post count for no real reason.

@Longshot

Regarding cinematic, yes it isn't special, but it is still assets in alpha stage. It is more a centerpiece to show a casting shot of Gary Oldman and the base example of their facial mocap. So it isn't really bad or good without the polish.

As for the actual game, you have to see the live demos of the PU or see the ship combat. In regards to special or not, this is the only space sim that doesn't fly like an atmospheric flight sim. That by itself is a bit of a true point as Elite Dangerous doesn't have that level of physics. As for gameplay, it is still too early to make judgement.

Still new, but learning

A lot of people are in it because of Chris Roberts (Wing Commander, Privateer, Freelancer). Personally, I haven't played any of his previous games (sadly).

First time I heard about Star Citizen was because of Linus on the WAN show, how he bought the $250 pack and that he was so excited about it. Since then I started looking into it. I have no previous experience with space sims/games either, but for some reason this game got me hooked. It was when they still did stretchgoals and how they were just raking them in.

Along the way I have met some real nice and friendly people, joined the organisation that was set up through the forum and participated in our meetups. I think this is the main reason I am so active with the game (which keeps up the hype ;)), if it hadn't been of the org, it would have been one of those games that just sat on a shelf waiting to come out.

That's my €0.02 about it. Plenty of people absolutely hate the guts of this game for some reason...

New to Star Citizen? Look no further!

Like Adreyu said there are a lot of reasons for the hype and its worth having a look around the website (www.robertsspaceindustries.com) and YouTube to get a feel for it because there really is a hell of a lot to it and not every aspect necessarily appeals to everyone but a short list for me would be:

- First person ship combat from the fighter level up to the capital ship level

- First person on foot combat

- Massively multiplayer first person sandbox universe (mining, trading, exploring, socialising, bounty hunting, stealing, protecting, etc.)

- Single player with a AAA cast and (hopefully) a deep story

- An evolving universe that will change as time goes on based on CIGs targeted storyline and player contribution

- Bleeding edge technology targeted at high end PCs

- Ship, weapon and character customisation

- and of course SPLOSIONS!!!

The thing that really grabbed me above all else was that it is a first person universe so you are a person in a ship not just a ship flying around.

https://youtu.be/SrpeLpQWzTk?t=5m52s

Just bare in mind it is all in alpha at the moment.
