Trade Your OnePlus 2 For a Meizu?

The obviously iPhone inspired Miezu Pro 5 is now taking jabs at OnePlus... with the hashtag #TurnTheHeatOff

 

Last week, OnePlus ran a contest that asked you to trade in your Samsung Galaxy device with the hashtag #TakeTheEdgeOff, so now Miezu is taking jabs offering to take your OnePlus device with the hashtag #TurnTheHeatOff, in reference to the scolding hot Snapdragon 810 in the smartphone. They're holding a contest to let you trade your OnePlus 2 for a Miezu Pro 5, similar to OnePlus' previous contest.

 

While the OnePlus campaign asked us to “#taketheedgeoff”, the Meizu campaign is asking us to “#taketheheatoff”, a jab at the Snapdragon 810. Honestly, we think this is pretty genius. There are still a lot of people shaking their heads at Oneplus over the Samsung contest, and this is a great way for a Meizu to get some free publicity. But is this deal any better than what OnePlus was offering? Depends on who you ask.

 

The best part is that the Miezu is actually a pretty decent device, at a slightly higher price tag too ($429), but with specs to match. The Pro 5 will be running the Exynos 7420, the same powerful chip in Samsung's line of devices, a 5.7" full HD (1080p) OLED display, USB Type-C with fast charging support, MicroSD, and basically a slew of things the OnePlus 2 decided against.

 

It's unlikely that this will get Miezu a whole lot of attention, but their device seems great, and they're basically offering you a free upgrade on your device - if you like the iPhone like design.

 

So what do you guys think? Is this a funny move from Miezu? Would you trade in your device? Or should Miezu have not kicked OnePlus while they're down?

I am however interested in that phone, will wait what the reviews and benchmarks have to say about it!

Does it have keylogging built into the low level hardware so it can send all your info to the chinese govt ? Because I totally want one if yes. Who the hell trusts a chinese branded /made phone ? Other stuff is probably tampered with enough, but this is 100 percent chinese design, no thanks.

On paper, it almost seems like a no brainer to go ahead and trade. But I can't handle how stupid I'll look when someone mistakes it for an iPhone and I'll have to correct them and be like:

Me: It's Meizu

I actually like the Meizu better than the 1+2, but in order to trade for the Meizu that would mean owning a 1+2 which I don't, and I'm pretty sure Meizus don't play well with US/Canada bands.

True. But even after that, you and I can both realize the stigma, an average person will have, when looking at the device; thinking that's it's some cheap iPhone knock-off. But so far, 99% who looked at my OP2 from a distance first guessed that I was holding a OPO (or OP1), but after I corrected them, they were like "Oh that's sick! How did you manage to get your hands on one? I tried to blah blah... " (which is really exciting to hear tbh in person )

It does seem to be better than the oneplus 2 in all respects... I was considering an lg g4 for 400 bucks, but the OLED screen in this one really attracts my attention. I'll check its availability in my country tomorrow.

I'd use a cover on a device like this anyway - not that I care too much about what "casuals" think about my choice of hardware. I think there's no shame in copying the iphone's design (which is what it does well) and improving on almost everything else for a lower price.

So.... one can do Samsung's ultimate test drive, downgrade to the Oneplus 2, and then upgrade to this all while losing over 800 bucks..... seems worth.

Buy your Galaxy S6's, trade them in for a OP2, then trade in your OP2 for this phone.

I can tell but at first glance it sure is close. Too bad I am an iPhone fanboy. Only reason is Xcode, security, and performance otherwise it is trash

I have a OP2 and this is genuinely tempting. Fast charge with type-c, oled, micro sd... It's what the OP2 needs to be complete. If the bands match my region, Thunderbirds might be a GO!
