why do u need a gtx980 ti evga and dominator 1.6kdollar ram for arcade games?

We had game night at work, nerdy dude at work brought a monster of a pc, all he plays is arcade games -.-
like arcade games pacman, old street fighter, tetris, nothing else but that not even like far cry 4 or something with high graphics.
Please some1 explain to me why people do this waste of money? when u can play these arcade games on a smartphone.
Blew my mind on so much stupidity i walked out of there.

I first read that as 16 GB RAM, then I saw the . and dollar. I can understand if he dual booted, are you sure he uses it ONLY for arcade games? ( I've had this kind of experience, a kid at my high school bought an EVGA Torq X10 Carbon for school only, and we use Chromebooks. )

So ppl at work said that he has to keep his Nerd Status high lol, and Kloaked he hooked it up to one of the 65inch tvs, all he had installed was like 20-25 arcade games and brought arcade joysticks -.- not even any like graphic design apps. every1 else had ps4s lol so they were all like wtf is that :D

I could understand getting up to 8gb ram and a 750ti for arcade games but only so that you can have chrome running and use a gsync monitor

Just playing a game doesn't make no one gamer. Do you know what else he does on spare time? He maybe be programming and need that power. Or video/photo editing or 3D rendering. And have little fun with some facebook games on side. You can't judge people because of that.

 

Plus this comes down to enthusiasts. And I will take the car analogy. You have someone who's really into cars, does customizations, really spends much or gets expensive luxury cars. And then drives them on sundays according to speed limits around local roads. Most likely they have some cheap family car to go work with. Same thing. You like something, you use money for it. I mean I don't need i7 for most things I do. Its nice when encoding movies but normal day I use under 15% of calculation power. I have $100 DAC and I mostly use it with $25 speakers. So sue me.
