Computer won't boot with new ram installed.

CoolMarquis97

So I just bought some new ram, (It is supported by my motherboard) it was 2x8GB sticks and for some reason whenever I insert both sticks my computer won't boot. My Asrock Z77 extreme motherboard gives me an error 55 code, but once I remove one stick of ram my computer boots up and is fine.

Somebody please help!

try 1 stick at a time in all 4 slots, do if each stick works in single slots to try and narrow down whether its a dimm or one of your sticks

Given that removing a stick of ram works, try the other stick of ram in the slot that the working one was in. If the computer still boots, then it is likely a motherboard issue.

Sounds like your board has a bad slot. If the board has 4 slots then try using all 4 slots to see a difference.

OH NO! Just tried my 3rd and 4th slot and they don't work! Am I screwed? I did just move my motherboard into a new case but I don't remember ever hitting the motherboard or anything like that.

You could contact your manufacturer and they may be able to tell you if there's some sort of thing you're missing in the configuration of your board. Sounds to me like your got a funky board though.

if the ram works in 1 slot but not another then its your board if the ram doesnt work in any slot its probably your ram

Have you tried clearing cmos and/or enabling XMP in the bios?

I've seen some people clean RAM slots and modules with Deoxit. I haven't used this personally.

I'll try this now!

reseat the CPU, making SURE no pins are bent. Try installing and removing each stick of ram about 10-20 times.

I think I have bent some pins in a previous installation but it was never a problem as the ram always worked in any slot, this is a brand new error after moving the components into a new case. Is there a guide to unbending pins?
