What PSU Do I need for this Mid-High End Gaming PC?

jjjepong

I've been fiddling around with PSU Calculators and what not, but I cant find one that is complete with EVERYTHING i would be plugging in to my PSU.

Specs:

1x i5-4690k Overclocked
2x 4GB RAM

1x z97 gaming 5 Motherboard

1x SSD

1x 1TB HDD (But I would like room for expansion might add 2-3 more HDD in here)
1x DVD
1x GTX 960 (Will be upgrading to a 970/980 soon enough)

NOW THE PART WHERE THE CALCULATORS DONT ACCOUNT FOR:
I'd be placing a Custom Water Cooling Pump connected to the PSU

a lot of devices connected to the USB Ports ( I Dunno if these count? But im placing them just to be sure)
Razer Deathstalker

Razer Tiamat
Razer Mamba

Razer Leviathan

C920 Cam

+1 USB Mouse (For  when I forget that my Mamba gets drained during extensive gaming sessions)

Like how many Watts would I need for this specs? Overclocked CPU and GPU..

500 should be good enough for now, upgrading to a 970, 600W would be fair, 980? IMO I'd put a 750W for more headroom. Just my opinion tho.

A solid 600W or 650W

I'd go with a solid 750W as it gives you loads of room if you ever sli/crossfire.

If you need a specific power supply i'd recommend a Corsair  RM750 or a EVGA supernova 750 g2.

thanks for the quick Reply.. I do have a good deal here for Corsair CS750 so that should be enough for the above mentioned Overclocked Custom Cooled and Such? Correct? I just didnt want to buy a PSU now and have to upgrade again later on.

Honestly get a 650w sense you will be upgrading. Also get a semi or fully modular psu it will help a lot for cable management.

I mean, do you actually ever plan on running 2 cards? We can only assume that newer parts will continue to use less power so buying for headroom you'll never need is pointless. Don't plan for an SLI/CF setup if you're not putting that card in for another year or two. Just my two cents. Good luck :)

You could run this system on a 400w psu and still have PLENTY of headroom. But people on this forum think that this is 5 years ago when you actually needed this much power to run a high end setup.

should mention buying a 960 now to plan upgrading to a 970/980 isnt the most cost-effective thing you could do.

I actually already have a 960.. Performance is not living up to expectations thats why im still Planning to buy a better GPU in the near future, if the budget allows it. for now, I have to work with my 960 :)

Well, I'm sure as hell not going to SLI 2x 960s.. If ever I might go with 2 or more cards, i would go for 2x 970/980s.. this is just for Gaming.. No Graphics designing rendering and all that.. Although I am a player who likes to play games on the HIGHEST settings possible so I can appreciate the graphics/gameplay better.. Just a Gamer here :)

Seasonic makes very good power supplies, and this pirticular one has a great price and build quality.

You can read on it here: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/05/18/seasonic_m12ii620_power_supply_review/9

Basically it's built very well inside and out, easily provided power at 45c, high quality capacitors, and did very well with voltage regulation.

EVGA's 550W GS/B2/G2 are good options. Antec's HCG is good. Seasonic has a few units at or around the same price point. Currently XFX is killing it with stuff on a budget as well.

For a 4690k and a 960 you'll very rarely see over 220W usage under load so don't worry too much about wattage.

|PSU Tier List /80 Plus Efficiency| PSU stuff if you need it.

your build looks like it'd be fine with something even like a Seasonic S12ii 520W/Antec HCG though perfectly fitting maybe would be a G550 from seasonic or EVGA B2/GS :D.

Personally i'd grab a Evga gs 550w :)
