Can a CX PSU handle an i7/i5?

Yuniks

Hello,

I was just wondering if a Corsair CX could handle an Intel Core i7 processor(non-k edition processors)

For example, I have a Corsair CX500 with almost 400W powering my system altogether. Would it then handle a Core i7 upgrade?

Don't pull the devil's tail, or in this case, don't use the devil's home-made PSU

ye why not? :)

I've just heard of over voltages with high end components and lower end power supplies :)

CX are bad and a fire hazard - replace the PSU with something good like the EVGA G2/GS or Antec HCG first.

Alright, thanks for all the info.

What about an i5? For example, an i5 4690(non-k)

if not OCing get the 4460 and save some money - not worth going higher.

could it handle it, yes... would i recommend it... no

cx are for basic builds stuff like pentiums and i3s, anyone using their pc under a heavier load like gaming and rendering really shouldnt use a cx psu. getting like a seasonic g series or a g2 evga would be the better upgrade at this time honestly

i think that you are exaggerating a bit.

All though the CX series are not the best quality out there,

They are difinitely not the worst either.

i5 would have less tdp I think so still works.

Would it work? yes

For how long? Uncertin but i wouldnt think it would last more than 2 years.

Is it safe? HELL NO

They're different models some are good some are bad. but I think there is a higher % of you getting a good one if you had one. I bought mine 2 years ago and its still running fine

But it still dosen't mean there are all good, surly there are bad models out there

True but its still NOTHING you should put in a system which ambient temperature inside the case exceeds 35 degrees Celsius or is under a decently heavy load (65%+) for extended periods of time.

You know what - I'm too tired of repeating myself over and over. We've had 4 of them blow up on this forum past 2 weeks - 1 GPU died, 1 SSD died, 1 motherboard died - 4 different rigs. Whatever

Alright so if I need a new power supply, what would be a good one for an i7/i5 upgrade to this system?

That doesnt mean anything realy.

i have seen 5 seasonics die in a row.....

I have no idea what you try to say with that.

like i said CX units are not the best quality,

But definitely also not the worst realy.

There are way worse psu´s then cwt units.
