Which GPU for 1080p Max Settings Gaming?

My specs are:

 

i7 3770k @3.5ghz

16gb DDR3 RAM

Corsair CX750W PSU

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H ATX Motherboard

128GB SSD, 1TB HDD

 

I currently have 2 660 Ti's in my computer but it can't run demanding games like Witcher 3 or GTA V at even close to max settings. 

 

What GPU would be good for my setup? I've been eyeing the 980 Ti but it's quite pricey. 

 

P.S. I prefer Nvidia.

My 390 does, even at higher resolutions.

A 970 or 390 would run Max settings fine with 60fps.

- CPU: Intel i7 3770 - GPU: MSI R9 390 - RAM: 16GB of DDR3 - SSD: Crucial BX100 - HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB -

i've heard some good things said from 970s in GTA V (which will probably be your best pick if you want to stick with nvidia and dont break the bank)

You will not need the 980ti. even the 970 is good. I like Earthbound's suggestion with the 390.

Since you said you prefer nvidia i'd go with a 970 or even a used 980.

(also side note, you might want to get a new power supply as the CX series is deigned for office and very light gaming PCs.)

for 144hz 980ti cant even max out crysis 3, i get like 90-110 fps

nope. the r9 390 performs 5% better for the same price, plus the extra vram

They trade blows in most games. However from what we've seen thus far, AMD is performing better in DX 12 games.

Always buy the best that you can afford. Make a budget and spend it.

 

If you can afford a 980ti YoloSweg420 BlazeIt Edition, buy it. You will have a much better experience than if you got something lesser.

A lot of what I'm seeing from other forums points to 660 Ti SLI being around the same in performance as a 970...is an upgrade to that really worth it?

970 use lower wattage than 660x2 so yeah

Up to you mate. I had two 770's in SLI and I ended up selling them to get a 980, even though the 980 has just a tad bit more performance.
