No shit sherlock

Well just be passionate about the subject it's really not hard if you have a passion for whatever you want to do. In the UK at least universities like Cambridge or imperial only really consider students that have got 10 A/A*'s + generally. There are lots of tests you have to pass, you have to be confident when it comes to the interview as I already said being passionate about the thing you want to do is dead important, be sure to read up A LOT on what you want to do, I had a couple of friends that applied to Cambridge and had the strangest of questions during their interview completely unrelated to the course.

being in the top 10% of the things you do is always nice, learn a instrument, help the community, be smart, nice, and honest. if you love your subject it doesn't matter what type of school you go to. always go above and beyond.

act and sat score, i made a 32 on the act and it got me call back from berkeley for a interview,  I didn't go, I couldn't afford it and wanted to go local.

Just be prepared to be told no, because of all the hundreds of students qualified to attend, a tiny fraction of them make it in. Attendance rates are small for prestigious universities. If you're going into IT, don't bother. Go to a decent college and you'll still make a good living afterwards.

As @Aytex said, be different. There are thousands of people who are denied from MIT who have 4.0s and perfect ACT/SAT scores. While grades are extremely important, these types of schools would rather accept someone with a 3.85 who has organized a club and raised money for a cause than someone who just has good grades.

Besides that, you can try to bribe a higher up working there.

And have cash money. College ain't cheap.

Not true. The hadest part about MIT is getting in. Once you get in, they will do as much as possible to let you afford it. Even if it means it's a full ride. But it's hard to get in.

Just stand out. Straight A's won't simply get you in. Whether it is excelling way above what is academically required or in extra curriculars. Excelling in tough situations also helps.

I know an engineer that went to MIT and his parents were a high school dropout and a high school grad. He excelled in math and was really smart. You just have to be different and set yourself apart.
