Dumbest Tech Questions/Quotes You've Ever Heard

NInety

Erm. It's not dumb though. AMD markets SLI (which is the correct term) as CrossFire and Microsoft was going on about its "PixelSense" display. HTC called their version of these short videos "HTC Zoe" so its not like Apple is the only one that uses marketing terms.

As far as I am aware, SLI is as much a brand name as CrossFire. Neither are generic terms for the technology of using multiple GPUs

Ok so 3DFX announced a multiple GPU technology called Scan-Line interleave which Nvidia purchased up and reintroduced it as Scalable Link Interface.

It is a brand thing but technically, if we look at what it meant before nvidia bought out 3DFX, it isn't.

"Scan-Line interleave", while it does seem to actually describe a particular thing, like "progressive" or "interlaced", would still (at least to me) seem like a brand thing because no one else is using that term... not even nvidia.  It's not a generic term like "CPU" for example, or we would all be referring to multiple graphics cards used together as "SLI" whether it was AMD's technology or nvidia.

Me: How much did you buy this for?

Person: they built it for me for $300

Me: whoever built this was an idiot, you've been ripped off.

My dad: Its a computer, it can do anything. Now make it open a wormhole so I can get somewhere (I know my father, he was not joking)

Being a programmer, I litterally slammed my head into my bed, multiple times after watching that (I'm using a chromebook, and I honestly don't care if my bed is suffocating it because it's the only place that's not the floor where I can use it.) (Yes, I have a chromebook, my school distributed them to all of the students)

Nothing wrong with chromebooks. They can be quite handy. I use mine all the time. :)

Went into a local PC parts shop earlier this year. Told the guy I was looking for 1st gen core i5's or core 2 quads like the Q6600 and a motherboard to go with it. They had a C2Q CPU, but the guy comes back with an H65 motherboard and tried to sell me the combo. I didn't know you could run a 775 CPU on an 1155 motherboard. :P Wanted to charge me something like $250 for the pair as well. The parts were still new in box, but come on. I just said no thanks and walked away. How do you work in a place like that and not know your stuff? >_<

Yeah, maybe if you add a 980Ti... lol

What were they thinking?

And the 980 ti is worth about the same as the computer , and that's without taking into account that you'll have to replace the psu ..

Dad gets adware all over his PC and the only way he can use it is with a virtual desktop. I ask him if he wants me to reinstall everything for him, he says

'No, you'll ruin it and there's too much stuff on there' even though I would move everything to an external drive and reinstall Windows...

And then I offered to build his new PC since he was getting one a while back. Tells me 'you don't know what you're doing' (which is quite the opposite) and buys an iBuyPower machine with a 4820K and a 760.

Oh, and my friend with a shitty PS3 says 'I don't care about the graphics I care about the game'. If you cared about the game you would at least play it at a higher quality.

I like how the 4820k and gtx 760 build makes no sense ...

No sense at all...

I like how console users say they don't care about framerate or resolution when asked about pc gaming , yet they start flame wars about how the ps4 runs at higher resolution / refresh rate ." The ps4 can run this game at 900p , 30 fps , the xbone can only run it 720p ! XBOX ONE SUCKS "

High school teachers:

"Your smartphones nowadays are more powerful than our computers!"

The school desktops have i3 2100s or Core 2 Duos (no Core 2 Quads), no GPU, <6GB RAM, HDD (spinning noise), probably no SSD & probably never maintained it. In other words, so much dust!

They're right. But the stupid part is their desktops. I wonder how long they'll be around...

They got rid of the netbooks last year & replaced them with Chromebooks...

I'd be curious to see how the i3 compares to modern smartphone cpus .
