Looking for an ATX mid tower.

TheSLSAMG
Go to solution Solved by YT2002,

I am planning on making some major revisions to my system soon, and a new case and motherboard will be part of it. The motherboard I will be buying is the Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 7, so the case should be compatible with that, dual GTX 960 G1s and an H110i GT. Like always though I have some requirements that now follow:

  • Up to $130, nothing over.
  • Must match color scheme. Black/Red.
  • No Fractal Design Define S/R5. I don't like either option for my own reasons.
  • I would prefer the inclusion of a PSU cover and 5.25" bays
  • Dedicated 2.5" bays are required. They can be part of the 3.5" brackets, but I don't want to adapt anything.
  • ATX Mid Towers only. No cube-style cases, full towers or ultra towers.
  • Should be available at Micro Center, Newegg if not.

And that's about it. Thanks in advance.

You can try the Noctis 450, red and black

Corsair 450D, you may want to add more drive cages later on due to limited space for drives.

If you got enough room for a full tower, i'd say 750D.

If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

Fractal R5 has somehow not been mentioned. Define S if you're OK with no optical drive.

i find the corsair spec-03 pretty cool

Lacking in terms of build quality, kind of ugly and it doesn't fit my cooler properly.

Corsair 450D, you may want to add more drive cages later on due to limited space for drives.

If you got enough room for a full tower, i'd say 750D.

The 450D isn't too bad, but I don't want a full tower (750D) because they generally look empty.

You can try the Noctis 450, red and black

I love the look, and if I can get past the lack of any 5.25 inch bays, I'll probably have it.

NZXT H440

Fits all of your criteria except external bays. But you don't need those any way. ;)

Also doesn't fit the no full-tower criteria. I'm definitely willing to make exceptions (the Noctis being one of them), but the H440 is a little plain Jane for me.

Fractal R5 has somehow not been mentioned. Define S if you're OK with no optical drive.

I mentioned in the OP that I didn't want either case. I have the same problem with them as I do with the H440, they both look bland. The Arc Midi R2 might work though.

Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone.

@TheSLSAMG

H440 isn't a full tower. It's large, but not that large.

I think its exterior simplicity is part of what makes it great. But even still, if you think it's ugly and plain, that would be more of a deal breaker than the size. We can haz opinionz.

Edit // Interesting. The Noctis 450 appears to be exactly the same as the H440 but with different top and front panels. Check the dimensions to be sure. If you don't like the size of the H440....

Edit edit // Yep. Same case on the inside under the panels. It might be too big for you.

My 750D.....well i can fit random stuff in it. Although it is large, but it can fit whatever you can throw at it.

Ah, gotcha. I've seen the H440 in person and it's anything but bland IMO but whatever works for you. I think that the Noctis might be for ya.

I can also suggest the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M. PSU shroud, mid tower, 5.25 inch bays. however not at the stores you want

That would be correct, the Noctis and the H440 are one in the same. It's not really size in terms of exterior dimensions, it's generally that builds done in full towers look empty (though H440s usually do a good job of being filled.)

Noctis or h440

or s340

S340 is a definite no, it's nice and all but it's not up to spec in terms of build quality and materials. And SilverStone's Raven cases never really did it for me.

Ah, gotcha. I've seen the H440 in person and it's anything but bland IMO but whatever works for you. I think that the Noctis might be for ya.

Yeah, I'm thinking so as well.

It was something that I was considering, but it's kind of expensive compared to it's smaller brother. And besides, every time I see an Enthoo case I think of @CoolaxGaming's build. Not a bad build by any stretch, but it looks so empty pre-loop.

Nevertheless, I think I'm going to go with the Noctis 450. Thanks guys.

Nothing in particular, though if I ever wanted to add a front panel card reader or something it would have been nice to have. However, it's not too big of a deal since anything you can put in a 5.25" bay you can usually have an external version of anyways.

I have no specific plans for it, but the Air 540 will still house a different machine.
