advice needed: SLI Titans or SLI 780's

Hey gang,

 

Needing advice.  I currently have a Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce OC watercooled with an XSPC kit.  Works fine but want to step up to next gen video cards.  I do a lot of gaming and am pushing 5760 x 1200 in Nvidia surround.  2 x 23" monitors and 1 x 24" monitor as the center.  

 

I'm looking at the Hydro copper cards (watercooled) from EVGA.  The 780 and the Titan.  There is a substantial price difference between the 2 but is the difference worth it?  I'm in Canada so my guy at NCIX can to $800 each for the 780 and $1249 for the Titan.  It's and extra $1000 after tax for Titans once I do it in SLI.  It is not the $$$ concern as much as the performance concern.  I'm hoping to finally be satisfied with my system for 2-4 years.  

 

I have seen a lot of comparison videos on YouTube between the 780 and the Titan.  FPS is only marginally better with the Titans.  I don't plan on upgrading to 4k monitors anytime soon.  Which route would be the best way to future-proof my system for next gen game?  Titanfall looks awesome!  Crysis 3 with settings maxxed out.  BF4 and next gen Dirt is what I am hoping to play without any problems and as close to 60 FPS would be idea.

There is no "future proof rig you speak of" but if you want a system that will run any game you throw at it for the next 5 years. get the 780's as you won't benefit from the titans all that much in gaming.

Overclock3D did 780 sli vs Titan sli at 2560x1400.  I don't think the extra vram would make that much of a difference except in games like Metro that uses a lot of vram or modded Skyrim.

If money doesnt matter, titan would be better because of the vram.

get two 780's, the performence difference wont be that noticeable, considering both 780's got 2+Gigs of VRAM. YOu can spend the rest of your money to upgrade my rig :)

Plus you could get 3 780s for the price of 2 titans if you feel it's necessary :)

Tripple SLI does not scale that well, as normal SLI does.

I would say, if you are planning on running nvidia sorround, then i would probably go with 2 titans or 2 780 4 gb.

Duals 780's wont cut it for suround for very long. I already have games that hit 2.5gb of vram on my SLI titans. Additionally i wouldnt call the 700 series the next generation of video cards. Just run SLI 670's and wait for maxwell.

A friend gave me the option of 690s in SLI. Wasn't on the radar. With regards to maxwell I don't know if I can wait for it. The timing on my budget is forcing a move in the next 3-4 weeks.

Is there a better brand of card I should go for in either the Titans or the 780s? I'm trying to get as much VRAM as possible with my budget. I have heard that tri-SLI is not the best idea due to latency issues and more pronounced in AMD cards. Sould I also consider 3 670s in SLI and wait for Maxwell?

That test wasn't scientifically rigorous, the 780 and the TITAN are essentially the same card. And with GPU boost 2.0 are thermally limited so you pur a better cooler on one it will perform better.

That said unless you have a task that requires double precision FLOPS the 780 is the smart choice
