recommended PSU for a 4 Titan x build?

Austin Borg

I'm not getting all the Titan X's at once, so don't worry. I'm getting 1 every 6 months and when I get the 4th I get all the watercooling components I need, the Reason for every 6 months is so I can hear about future cards and maybe not get the 3rd or 4th, but if I have all four by the time a new god card comes around, I may aswell still get it. (my dad said hell do it if I get good grades) - since i'm going into highschool, and basically I'm wondering WHAT PSU is best for this? because I asked XPhantomX (the guy who has a $40,000 PC on Pcpartpicker and he said that 1500W is almost capped.

so i'm asking what PSU will this build need? it's not completed please note that.

- Message from XPhantomX (the guy who has the 40K build)

Well, i like the build, these are the things you need to look out for. First thing is that my AX1500i is barely handling my system right now, so i strongly suggest you getting 2 PSU's. And as far as i know, there is no 144Hz 4k monitor atm. Also about the headset... I thought it was a nice change from my HD800 (lol). And i'd like to see your finished build here once it's done :)

My PcPartpicker List - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Hc8psY

also how will I get two PSUS (I'll run one 1200W for the GPU and maybe like a 800W/1000W for everything else

What is this rig for... 4x Titan X is overkill for 1440p 144hz..... and the 3rd/4th cards only add like 10% more fps so you are throwing away $2000

if gaming get the 980ti instead and at max just 2 of them

I hope you know 980Ti performs the same at ~$350 less. Also to let you know 4-Way is highly, unstable. I highly suggest getting 2x 980Ti and you are set. As for the PSU with 2x980Tis a 850-1000w is good. EVGA p2 is a good one.

Also the ram... Is like $350 overpriced. What in the WORLD do you need this PC for.

A 5820k 16gbs of ram and 980Tis in SLI would probably be more then enough for what you need.

There's going to be a lot of new stuff come out in the two years it will take you to get these cards.

I have to ask, though, why? What on Earth do you need this for in Highschool? You could go for 2 980Tis, get good performance and spend the money you save on a car or something.

EDIT: Also, no SSD in a $8k build? You will probably want to get the Asus PG279Q when it comes out over the PG278Q.

At the moment is basically just for bragging rights, but I suppose that in the future ~2017, those titans will just be the sweet spot for gaming no? Still, to excessive for today... He should only keep 2 of them and send 1 to me and the other to you... :P

please, just help me. not fucking ask for one of my cards. and in 2017 I think they'll still be a god card, because they won't crush the monolopy on them, and if they do they will release another card and thats why i'm waiting 6 months and if my purchase date is near a event date, then ill wait and see if Nvidia is going to release anything. + NCIX and Linus got all the news 4 me so i'm getting this until a new card comes out.

hey blood, that VRAM is useless yo

Your screens are not 4k...so why do you want 4k performance... SLI 980Tis are enough for 144hz 1440p and are cheaper and have enough VRAM too

Titan X is a waste of money there is NO benefit to getting a Titan X over a 980ti for gaming

Also

2 years is a long time, a lot might have changed since then, and a 4 way Titan X rig will still get just as out dated

The 2 monitors ( for the right but the main monitor (http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-pb287q) is 4k and is in the middle, so i'm getting a hub where i can get them all to one cable therefore i can just move one monitor to the left or right so I can play CSGO in 144hz. besides that ill use the main monitor.

Have fun with screen tearing and micro stutters have few milliseconds. You don't need 12GBs of vram. For 4k a more logical card would be 980Tis in SLI or 390x's in crossfire for the more budget oriented people. Also for Gaming you'll never go above 8Gbs of ram. 16gbs is for multitasking, gaming, ect ect. anything higher then 2-Way SLI or crossfire is unstable.

12GB of VRAM, which will be needed in a couple of years, I'm not upgrading this unless another god card comes out thats why i'm getting a Titan X. 12GB vs 6GB, and even that 4 AMD Fury X's beats this but I want something I can overclock and I'd rather have 4 Titan X's besides 4 980 Ti's yes, I know there is no difference but I HAVE the best. :D

The 4th Titan X can make installing the drivers and even posting a nightmare, the guys at NCIX took an entire day just setting up the 4way SLI Titan X rig. The third one is a waste of money since after 2 diminishing returns are ridiculous, and it won't make you any more futureproof than getting dual 980 tis, Also, 3 titan X will be bottlenecked by you CPU, so being fully honest, chances are you won't get much after 2 cards, and 980 tis are a bit faster for gaming.  If you are really decided on that config...guess an EVGA 1600W T2 is as good as it gets

But please, at least don't get a 4th one, it's not only a waste of money, it will make your gaming experience worst in most cases. 4way SLI is not something that has been optimized properly since almost no one has it.

I see,, well its your money, but I still think its a pointless waste going 4 way

2 way SLI fine.. 3 way if you are being crazy, 4 way nah

and still 980tis would be more cost effective

Besides, I think a nice 1440p 144hz panel is better than a 4k 60hz one for gaming - no matter what the game is#

No.. We wont - by the time we DO need 12gb of VRAM, the Titan  X will be old

Very few games take real adavntage of the PC architecture, heck most games still have to be ported to console (or ported to PC) and its too hard to make a version to use PC fully

Quit dreaming

Stop wasting your parents money kid. Games are UNPLAYABLE in 3-way and even worse in 4-way SLI or crossfire. You obviously haven't kept,up,with Linus because not to long ago they released a video of a build NEARLY EXACTLY THE SAME AS THIS and they said DONT. DO IT for gaming. It's completely useless and if you watch the video you'll see the terrible screen tearing and micro stutters you'll get.

okay, i'll get 3 because I'm not good with installing drivers and all that (first time builder but i have a russian hacker friend who builds pc's so he can help me)  this be good or is it overkill? ( I don't want to get to much wattage because that actually affects your bill overtime)
