When did linus become so unappreciative?

I understand asking for multiple review samples so other staff can try them out or give away (Ex, gaming laptops on trips) but lately it seems he's become a lot more demanding and a lot less appreciative! On one of the blog vid's he said we "only" got 2 MX master mice in, does anyone else find it kind of funny the guy went from asking for review samples to full out supplies (Mice, 4K monitors etc) for his employees?

 

I get some of you will say hmm if their offering it WHO would say no? In that case it's still funny to see Linus complain how expensive it is for him to run his business when all of his content/travel/and even a decent chunk of the office was sponsored!

 

Maybe someone can enlighten me but as a business owner and traveler, it makes me chuckle when Linus complains about expenses and such!

You have to remember the whole moving process can be quite stressful if things don't go right, and he probably didn't mean it that way he is still grateful, But things have gone wrong like the prison windows, and the door being locked numerous times

I seriously don't want to flame linus, I even bought a vessel subscription to watch his content! Also not just talking about the office since this has been going on a while. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this over time?

They don't get paid shit from videos

The amount of money they get from the videos only pays on persons salary for a year.... And they have an entire work group... They make most of their money of sponsors and reviews to pay everything off so it's not easy to do

Edit:A lot of things are donated to them since companies know they have a big audience and other people watching will get it so it's a win for companies... A lot of companies are skeptical about reviewer and have problems with them

Look at barnacles nerdgasm.... He is a reviewer and programmer like Linus but he had an impersonators that ruined his name with companies... Linus has had the same problem as well as other you tubers... Then the fake accounts that post THEIR VIDEOS ON as if it was made by themselves but instead stealing Content....

They have to deal with a lot of shit they shouldn't need to but it happens because people are stupid

If Linus says one thing as a joke don't take it up the ass and go around saying things... He's just a goofball that knows how to make good content at times that we all watch and I support with what I can

i actually agree with OP, linus seems kinda spoiled right now.

 

tough i would probably act the same way if i just get thousands of dollars worth of stuff shipped to me for the sole purpose of talking about it in front of a camera :P

i also believe lots of his review samples actually are not keeper units, and he has to ship them back after reviewing them.

I wasn't just talking about the MX master's in particular (though the things are a whole $100 each) Like the who "mood" has changed from a few years back, he's even calling out specific people on youtube comments! (Never seen anyone do that before) Though I do like all the new people he's hired since it made the channel a lot funnier!

I get where you're coming from, but you have to understand just what it is that Linus is doing. He's not running a Tek Syndicate or a JayzTwoCents or a Barnacules Nerdgasm here, he's running a fully-fledged media company supporting himself, eleven employees and a family of four. When you're that big from this, you have to be demanding, because a slip-up for such a small company that depends on Youtube and Vessel of all things can have a big impact. I know it sounds a bit of an exaggeration, but Linus isn't saying this stuff because he's ungrateful, it's just that he has to get stuff done. What exactly would you do in this situation?

LinusTechTips is the largest tech channel of its kind on YouTube, dwarfing NCIX Tech Tips' subscriber base along with all others, which I think is amazing, but it has to have come from somewhere and it wasn't wishy-washy, take-shit-lying-down tactics.

yeah i get that. i mean, i thought it was stressfull moving from my old house to my new house. i can't even imagine how moving a full fledged company must be like!

Edit: He is also only demanding because they keep giving him stuff. They keep giving him stuff because he rarely criticizes anything anymore. It's a win win for everyone involved. I'd be tempted to say it causes bias, but it's impossible to say for sure

The apple watch was the first time he really criticized something in a long time. And the star wars headphones aren't even really a tech category, they're basically off brand beats. What did you expect? It's not even a serious product, it's a cash grab. Not to mention that was like a year ago

The apple watch was the first time he really criticized something in a long time. And the star wars headphones aren't even really a tech category, they're basically off brand beats. What did you expect? It's not even a serious product, it's a cash grab. Not to mention that was like a year ago

Well it has been some time because look at what he is doing... Office move..

Then it's the time of year where tech isn't really getting out yet it mostly happens around the very start and end of the year until the releases

Then a lot of companies send out review samples that he sends back... Linus has to reach out to the company to let him get a product for free to use and make a video about it in front of an audience... Put yourself in a companies shoes would you do it? Also what if the company has a faulty product and still sells it or there is a reason not to buy...

Give it a few months until the tech picks up and we will see more reviews of products that will have a bad review... But how the way a lot of companies are they try to improve a product not make it worse

If he really wanted to make constant reviews he could review battery packs... I got a message asking if I could review a battery and I'm not even a YouTuber let alone never uploaded a video... Just because I liked and commented on the cheerio battery review I got that so yea..

I get where you're coming from, but you have to understand just what it is that Linus is doing. He's not running a Tek Syndicate or a JayzTwoCents or a Barnacules Nerdgasm here, he's running a fully-fledged media company supporting himself, eleven employees and a family of four. When you're that big from this, you have to be demanding, because a slip-up for such a small company that depends on Youtube and Vessel of all things can have a big impact. I know it sounds a bit of an exaggeration, but Linus isn't saying this stuff because he's ungrateful, it's just that he has to get stuff done. What exactly would you do in this situation?

LinusTechTips is the largest tech channel of its kind on YouTube, dwarfing NCIX Tech Tips' subscriber base along with all others, which I think is amazing, but it has to have come from somewhere and it wasn't wishy-washy, take-shit-lying-down tactics.

I understand asking for multiple review samples so other staff can try them out or give away (Ex, gaming laptops on trips) but lately it seems he's become a lot more demanding and a lot less appreciative! On one of the blog vid's he said we "only" got 2 MX master mice in, does anyone else find it kind of funny the guy went from asking for review samples to full out supplies (Mice, 4K monitors etc) for his employees?

 

I get some of you will say hmm if their offering it WHO would say no? In that case it's still funny to see Linus complain how expensive it is for him to run his business when all of his content/travel/and even a decent chunk of the office was sponsored!

 

Maybe someone can enlighten me but as a business owner and traveler, it makes me chuckle when Linus complains about expenses and such!

People liking and thumbsing up are what got him there in the first place. It's why this forum exists. I personally don't mind liking his videos, it takes me half a second, and contributes towards his channel, which I have loved to see progress over the past year and a half that I've watched his videos. I think what Linus has done is impressive enough that we can at least support him that way.
