Are Gunnars even useful?

Tacobite

So my friend bought gunnars for 70 dollars, and I haven't really grasped the concept or need for them. I mean I have a program called f.lux that essentially masks the screen with a yellow tint and I thought it would nearly have the same effect.

If someone who owns gunnars can express their opinion on them, then maybe I would understand them more

I don't understand either. They're supposed to reduce eyestrain, and you can now get them with prescription, so I guess if you wear glasses anyways they're a good buy.

There's only so much a pair of glasses can do IMO. But who knows, they may work. I haven't seen any pros wear them or anything sooo...

They reduce eye strain a lot. They work in that aspect. Is it worth obliterating color? I really really don't think so. You could also just get a nice monitor that has the same ability. Mine has reading mode which reduces blues and is fantastic for the very rare occasion I am working on something and have eye strain. $70 is just way way too much. I can see these being 30 though.

I bought a pair for like $30 about a year ago, they didn't help at all, when I stopped wearing them after a long session I had to take a rest because I couldn't stand watching anything. I wouldn't recommend them personally but maybe they changed something with the new models.

Beat me to it.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Gunnars are basical normal eyeglasses but with 10% magnification, 10-15% amber, and ant-reflective coatings if I am not mistaken.

Dyrus wears Gunnars. But in all seriousness, f.lux is effectively equivalent to Gunnars, but without the magnification and price tag. I have f.lux turned on all the time, and it greatly reduces my eye strain. IMO, protecting your eyes is worth a free download, but not a dinky $70 piece of plastic.
