This is why I don't recommend buying a 4GB vram card in 2015.

TheConverter

No. 8K 8X AA. And people said you can't max out 6GB of vram...

Who the hell said that?

Because 4K and 8K is huge difference. This is why we need HBM, we will see 8K monitors at CES 2016 or Computex 2016.

Believe me most of the ppl are still with 1080p and i dont think they are planning to get anything new soon.

Yeah.. That's why it's so completely unrealistic.

I play at 1440p  with my 980, I can usually do 1.25x or 1.5x DSR and still be below the 4GB mark.

like 90% of people are still on 1080p, not sure why 4GB wouldn't be plenty lol.

You do realize, games may use as much VRAM as possible. For an example, Crysis 3 at 1080p.

If there is resource available, the system will load more data into the RAM/VRAM.

If you only have 4GB vs 8GB vs 16GB of RAM, Windows will throw more data into whenever there is more usage RAM. Try it. Take a stick, or two, of RAM out and check the Resources tab.

Yes.. but we still need 8GB or more vram in the future... and HBM for the speed. I bet if the 980Ti had HBM V2 it would get 30-40FPS in Witcher 3.

That's because of the limitation of vram speed. Skyrim for example is getting 60FPS @ 8K

So, people said to me: "Don't get a 980Ti, 4GB of vram it's enough"

These are real screenshots

It's completely rediculous you think games actually need that much vram. People need to learn a little bit about games if they are to invest that much into pc gaming.... even if you could find a modern game that uses more than even 3gb which there is only about 3-4 until you get into 4k gaming it's still under 4gb. Not only that if you run out of vram well made games will pour over into system memory, some people say that causes stutter, which it can if you use way too much system memory. But for example, here is me playing shadow of mordor perfectly fine stutter free with nearly 5gb of vram used on my 3gb card...

umm no it would get the same amount of fps, its not the vram holding it back, its the fact that ur on 8k and the card barely handles 4k at 60, if your not maxing vram then its not the vram thats holding it back its the actual gpu

It's not the gpu since it gets 60FPS in older games. It's the size of the textures in new games. Fury X would get 20FPS instead of that 9 because of HBM.

ok maybe a 10 fps gain max thats not the 30 fps gain that u said before, vram speeds can only go so far, its like saying that the faster your ram is the fps u will get, its true to a certain degrre, yes you will get more fps but its not going to be much

Fine:

-snip-

Sure, you win. If you crank up the resolution to 8K and the framerate down to single digits, you've possibly found the limits of 4 GB, 6 GB, or more. You've also found the limits of every GPU available today, which makes this entirely pointless. Find us a situation that is unplayable with 4 GB that would otherwise have been playable with 6 GB, and you may actually have a point.

We still live in a world where Crossfire/SLI is a requirement of ensuring 60 FPS gameplay across the board at 4K. 8K is years away from gaming viability.
