Why are people buying and recommending H81M which has 2.0 PCIe?

So I was looking for a cheap motherboard (I am a noob in these things) for a very affordable gaming PC and I can see almost every one recommending H81M mobo now what I don't understand is why do people recommended it when it does not have a PCIe 3.0 connectivity. I do not know how much performance gain does 3.0 have but still.....

PCIe 2.0 16x = PCIe 3.0 8x.

 

You don't really notice a difference between PCIe 3.0 8x and 16x with a graphics card.

there is no performance difference with 3.0 vs 2.0 unless you are using over 3 GPUs and other PCIe cards

anyone who is limited by budget to H81 definitely cannot afford 3 high end GPUs

Heyyo,

The only difference between H and Z series of motherboards? Support for GPU overclocking.

Both H and Z series support CPU and RAM overclocking.. but the boards themselves depending on the manufacturer might only support RAM overclocking to a degree.

So with that in mind and PCI-E Gen 2.0 running at x16? You'll be fine. :P

I'm rocking a Gigabyte Z68-UD7-B3 motherboard with Intel i3-3770k and I have absolutely no plans to buy a Z77 motherboard just to get PCI-E Gen 3.0 lol it's not worth the price difference.

I don't believe there is a single GPU that genuinely benefits from PCIe3.0 yet... and if there was someone buying a H81 board is probably not in the market anyway.

PCIe generational upgrades aren't for single add-in cards, they are for having more bandwidth available to be split up by multiple add-in cards so as to not create a bottleneck of transfer bandwidth with high end hardware demanding a lot. So they're may be a difference between PCIe 2.0 and 3.0 once you SLI/Crossfire but no single GPU has saturated the bandwidth of PCIe 2.0 x16 to benefit from PCIe 3.0 x16 yet AFAIK. I'm not quite sure about Titan X/980 Ti/Fury X levels however but as shown here, no problem with as high as the 980

PCIe 3.0 is better. All higher revisions of PCIe are better than the lower revisions so the correlation is there.

PCIe 3.0 is better. All higher revisions of PCIe are better than the lower revisions so the correlation is there.

A 10,000 foot runway is better than a 5,000 foot runway.

 

Unless you have to pay for it, and you are only going to land single engine propeller planes.  In which case you can go much smaller and not even notice a difference.

 

If your video card cannot saturate 2.0 x16 then the added capacity of 3.0 x16 simply goes unused.

Jesus guys I already googled, all sites gave me different answers... some said none while some said you will see a little performance drop. I did not want to waste my money on a board that would let my GPU's power go to waste! Now I have my answer, thanks guys!

PCIe 3.0 is a better standard than PCIe 2.0 - that was the whole point of what I said.

History always repeats itself whenever a improved specs comes out. When PCIe 2.0 came out, some argue that a gpu will not fully saturate PCIe 1.0. Now that PCIe 3.0 is out, the same type of people, now say a gpu will not fully saturate PCIe 2.0. When PCIe 8.0 comes out, it will be the same thing. Get a board that supports PCIe 3.0 like the B85.
