Was it stupid for me to buy a 970>390?

Beastattack

I'm mainly worried because of the VRAM. I want to play gta 5, fallout 4, csgo, rocket league, etc. at 1080p 60fps. If it's fine, how long will my 970 last me.

But at what settings sir, I'm going to assume high.

A 970 should be good for a year or two, maybe 3.

My 780 can still run AAA games at 60fps ultra 1080p. And 780=~=970. So you should be fine

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

OK LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT. AT 1080P, 3.5 GB OF VRAM DOESNT EVEN AFFECT ANYTHING. PLUS, THE GTX 970 IS BETTER THAN THE 390. I AM NOT A FANBOY.

It's fine but you won't be able to max out all game as even now there are game that go past 3.5 GB of VRAM (Shadow of mordor, GTA V, Battlefield and etc)

I have two important things to tell you

1. Stop screaming, it's rude.

2. The 970 has 4GB of VRAM.

Try Shadow of Mordor ultra or Battlefield (not sure which one was the VRAM hog)

Nope. Unless you're modding Skyrim.

Totally fine choice to go with the 970.

There are things the 900 series have over the R9 300 series and Fury, like hardware HEVC Encoding.

It's not about fps, it's about frame time and stuttering and if you were to actually max the game out then I am sure you are having that.

Nope, no stuttering, it's perfectly fine. I'm sure your AMD card has issues with temps and only a few games being optimized for it.
