I bought two refurbished 560 Ti's. Both worked fine and overclocked as well.

I buy used all of the time.

And refurb.

Dont' seriously, don't

Refurbs are worse than ebay laptops, refurbish means they WERE broken, and have been serviced. I've had to fix or return a lot more refurbs than I have plain used junk from ebay

At least don't do it unless the discount is significant. The only reason I'm so comfortable doing it is I'm really good at fixing laptops. Kinda my thing.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I have purchased refurbished from Microsoft, Sony, and Apple. They were all fine.

But those are all known for nice refurbished stuffs.

Ebay is also good, but make sure you shop smart on Ebay.

I have had second hand laptops before.

All good, if they broke down the before you got it chances are that they fixed the fault

My 2 friends, who are brothers got 2 identical acer laptop refurbs. Both broke within a month. Sent them in for repair, one came back after 4 months. The other after 11 months. Since then they have both broke again

depends if you want to take the risk. If you know how to repair computers and stuff i would get one but if you want to be on the safe side then just get a labtop that is brand new so you can get a warranty :P

But they are acer. Don't expect quality and lasting from an acer even if it was brand new.

I bought a refurbished laptop about 3 years ago from Canada Computers, and it's still running great to this day.

Only if there's a guarantee of quality and return options...

This. If something breaks in 3 days then return it is. I can't imagine what there is to go wrong in a laptop from a refurb. Most laptop refurbs are from idiots spilling milk on their machines or someone's dog ran into it while it was hanging off a desk and broke the screen or something like that.

Soo something like amazon/newegg's open box/refurb programs are good choices?

???

I'm not familiar with their terms and conditions so I can't say for sure...

I've only bought from brick and mortar shops... That way I can try out the device before I make the payment...
