Is the GTX 970 REALLY worth the extra 100$?

 

I want this card to last me a long time too, and can play any game I want, and it doesn't have to be at max settings, but either medium or high.

390, yes, 380, not so much. The 380 is really underwhelming.

Yes it is better. Also depends on prices in your country but R9 390 trades blows with GTX 970 at 1080p and defeats it at higher resolutions. Also it has a lot more usable VRAM which may not be usefull now but it may be needed in future.

Well here it performs better than a 960 for the same price, but I would go for the R9 390
