Paradox

Hello guys,

So today I talked with my mom and we talked about paradox.

 

She is saying that this is one :

 

«In summer you keep your shoes and socks, and in winter you are bare foot.»

 

Is she true ?

A paradox is a statement that apparently contradicts itself and yet might be true (or wrong at the same time).

That is not a paradox.It does not contradict itself, and I can't even understand what it's even trying to say.

 

An example of a paradox :  a man talks to a genie wishes that wishes couldn't come true. This contradicts itself because if the genie grants his wish, he did not grant his wish, and if he refuses to grant his wish, then he did indeed grant his wish, therefore making it impossible to either grant or not grant his wish because his wish contradicts itself.

It's not a paradox. 

 

Something like "This statement is false" is a paradox in the form of a statement. 

 

There's also paradoxes that aren't statements, such as there being smaller and larger infinities, which goes against the concept of infinity.

This is not a paradox at all.

A proposition is not considered a paradox unless it implies an inherent contradiction that prevents us from assigning a logical value to it.

This is not a paradox, there are well-ordered infinte ordinal numbers, it may contradict common sense, but it doesn't contract itself.

They fit into the definition of a paradox. They don't have to be self-contradicting.
