Amd or intel cpu build

Go to solution Solved by niofalpha,

Get an H97/H81/H85/H87/Z87 and a 4440/4460 with a 270.

The thing is this.I am building a pc for a friend and i am in a narrow spot.I could go for z97 and a 4690k with a 750ti which i think it should be fine for 720p gaming he said he will change the pc again in about a year or go for a fx-8300 and a 270x.I am still on the z 97 platform just for the simple fact that it's going to get new cpu's and he can keep the i5 for a very long while when the amd one is just old and the cpu's are not the best.I am sure the 750ti will do just fine for 2 -3 years if not what should i recommend him taking in consideration the fact that with that i5 he could upgrade just the gpu.

ps:not saying anything bad about amd,i am just asking

I would say i3 with another GPU or i5 if he can afford.

I wanted to go with the g3258 but is not that good and he can afford better

Intel.

At this point in time, I'd say in around 99% of situations AMD CPUs/APUs are obsolete and people should go with intel alternatives if possible. (There are some situations where an AMD processor is a better option, though this is not one of them..)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

It would be your best bet, a 4460 is as good as a 4690k for gaming and it won't be a bottleneck for quite some time. I would stay away from amd for gaming until they release Zen, provided Zen doesn't turn into another bulldozer

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

Thanks everyone for help.I will go with a h81 and a 4460 because i can fit a better gpu and in future he can either upgrade the cpu to a normal i7 which will still be viable for a long while or upgrade the gpu. Thanks again for your advices.Have a nice weekend.

If all you're doing is gaming then an i5 is just as good as an i7 in pretty much all games, the extra $100 or so for an i7 isn't all that worth it.

Now if you edit/record/render videos and such, then the i7 is a good choice.

Then an i5 is good for you.

Also, why such a low resolution?

Not for me,its for him and you know...we have a rule here.If aint broken don't try to fix it.His monitor is running just fine and there's no need for another one since he doesn't have the money
