@GoodBytes, could you help with explaining the warning point system?

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/365708-mods-and-the-inconsistencies-of-there-work/?p=4959312

It's one of the unfortunate consequences of evaluating every report individually instead of having a "Big Book of Warnings" that dictates to us exactly what to do for every phrase someone might post. There will be some amount inconsistency depending on who handles the report. We're all on the same boat for the most part, but we all have our individual tolerances on what crosses the line to constitute "offensive" or "spam", and of course you'll see these inconsistencies most often on the fringes, with posts that are kiiiinda spammy but not too bad, or kiiiiinda insulting but not too bad.

While I know it's disconcerting to have an ambiguous line where it's not quite clear what will get you a warning and what won't, or to get a friendly PM from one mod and a 2-point warning from a different mod for the same type of offense, it's important to remember that a warning is not actually a punishment in itself, it's just... well, it's just a warning. It's a glorified reminder message about the forum Code of Conduct. Some mods may choose to send you a friendly reminder PM, a 0-point warning, or a "formal" warning, it's a judgement call really, but the end result is not really much different.

The only real punishment we hand out is a ban, and we very rarely ban people singularly, that's almost always done after a group discussion first. So when it comes to the real deal, bans, there is no inconsistency depending on "which mod you get", it's decided as a group. And every ban is evaluated thoroughly (well, almost every; we're not immune to mistakes of course), we don't ban based on warning points, so it's not a big deal if one mod gives you warning points for something minor when another mod would have given you a zero-point warning or a PM instead. It's not as if you're closer to being banned one way or another, depending on which mod you get. It's really just a stylistic difference in how we choose to deliver the warning message. It's also very unlikely you'd be banned for the "mildly bad" stuff which is where you'll find most of the warning-or-no-warning inconsistency anyway, unless you really do it a lot and ignore previous warnings.

As for locking threads, yes there will always be inconsistency in how long it takes to lock a thread. Threads that are very obviously not allowed can be easily locked without a second thought, whereas other threads we might leave open while we wait for a second or third opinion from other staff members. The more complex a situation often the longer it takes to resolve since there are more mods getting involved in the discussion and weighing in on the situation. So just because you see a mod online posting or locking other threads doesn't mean another trouble thread is being ignored outright just because it hasn't been locked yet.

Also it should be noted that many staff members use notification utilities to email or alert us in other ways if something urgent comes up, so we may appear to be "online" even when we aren't present, as these utilities are accessing the forum with our accounts as long as our computers are on.

Does that help?

Yep, there's a hard limit, It's quite a  highly guarded secret though.  In order to keep it that way,  when you hit that limit, the forums server automatically finds your IP, downloads porn to your PC, calls in swat, Hires an assassin and signs your email up to fox news newsletters in order to destroy your credibility.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.
