Time for a update!

Go to solution Solved by AstroBenny,

This is really interesting.

In short, yes, the power supply is more than enough. The 980 is plenty for 1080P. Personally, I would get the 980.

Hi everyone! So im planning to drop a 980 ti or just a 980 in my system but I wanted to make sure that every thing will have enough power. I have a Corsair cx 500w psu, 2 hdds, 8gb ram and a AMD Athlon x4 750k (not oc cuz stock cooler) and right now a r9 270x.

So is that enough power for a 980 or 980ti also with card would be best the 980 or the 980ti (I want to play GTA V on 1080p)

-Thx B)

probably? not quite sure but i think it will be ok but get something like 650W+ if you can

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

you will probably want a PSU that is at least 700-750w for those cards if you are planning to OC for a stable build. and please dont get a CW500w, get something nicer.

EDIT : idk if you are asking us for a PSU recommendation or GPU advice

Upgrade to an I5 before you do any gpu upgrading...

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

Update the processor to an FX and OC it if you plan to stick to AMD.  :/  That processor will be a massive bottleneck to a card of that level.  AlwaysFSX is right about that.  If you want stock full use upgrade the mobo to at least an i3 or i5 and up the mobo to an 1150 socket.

So is the cpu a bottleneck to the 270x?

despite what everyone says, I would say go for 980ti. So what if it's going to be bottlenecked right now? It has better fps per dollar. And 980ti is about what you need to max out gta at 1080p 60fps with about 4xmsaa I would guess. Games are only going to get harder to run but think about upgrading the cpu as soon as possible. If moving to a 980 will allow budget for something like an i5 then do that.
