I'm making a new build soon and I need to know what processor to put in have around a £200 budget for the processor and these two seemed like the best, this system is for gaming but as I'm also going to college to study game designing I also need a pc that renders fairly quickly.

The components are

Case : HZXT H440

Motherboard : Will depend on which cpu...

GPU : GTX 980 Strix

PSU : Corsair 750w

Ram : Fury x 8gb 1600 mhz

Hardrive : 500gb seagate

Cooler : Corsair Hydro H60

CPU : HELP ME DECIDE

So yeah I'm looking for the best cpu for bang for your buck but also the one that will benefit me most in using software like photoshop , blender , unity. And obviously gaming.

Thanks In advance!

This isn't a contest. It's like a Larda vs a Ferrari.

i5 all the way :)

Also don't go for a 980 it's horribly overpriced in the UK (EDIT: Looks like they cut the price a bit, even so for £100 more than a 970 it isn't much better), and the H60 sucks invest some money into a better aio or better yet an air cooler ;)

i5 for sure, no question about it

4690K if you're going to be doing mostly gaming.

Not really. 9590 will actually be better for rendering, of course setting aside the huge power consumption and heat output.

the amd processor is good on paper, and in programs that use all 8 of its cores, but for stuff like games that generally use 1-2 threads, it will hold your system back ...

Also dont put yourself through the extra cooling/ motherboard vrms required for the amd chip

If for any reason you wanted to get an FX-9590, you could get an Intel Xeon E3 1231 V3 and save money and still get better performance. For gaming, definitely get the i5. For rendering, forget the 9590 and get the Xeon E3 1231 V3, if you have a larger budget and want rendering, then get an i7.

Keep in mind that the FX-9590 will require at least a $90 cooler in the form of a Corsair H100i or Noctua NH-D15 minimum, while you can cool the i5-4690k with a 212 Evo and still have high overclocks, or the Xeon E3 1231 V3 on just the stock cooler. Plus the FX-9590 will require a very beefy motherboard with super strong power delivery.

Very marginal from my experience, and if you use GPU assisted rendering probably even closer. Plus if rendering is a high priority the Xeon or i7 is still a better option for the price than the 9590 :P

I love FXs but the 9590 is a BAD purchase! (FX-9590 needs a 990FX mobo which cost same as the damned CPU!) :o

Note: 390X is cheaper than 980 and is about as good! :D

Not really. 9590 will actually be better for rendering, of course setting aside the huge power consumption and heat output.

It's just overpriced for what it is. Along with that you need good cooling, and a good motherboard to pair with it.

It's also priced at around the same price as a 4690k/Xeon 1231.

i woad say i5 since fx isnt worth really since you only benefit in rendering and you need something in80£+ range to cool it down and most games (few exceptions) are optimized for i5 so it is imo better and get some air cooler or get h80 as it is cheapest good aio(coler master has some 2 but just example)

Depends really. I wouldn't consider that particular AMD CPU consider the 8320 instead, the 9590 is just a pre overclocked version of the CPU and is very hot.

AMD is give you better rendering performance but Intel will give you better gaming performance so you need to decide what's more important.

With AMD you could lose upto 10fps but it's not that big of a deal tbh.

Also you if you want you could get a Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO instead of the H60 it will give you equal performance for a much lower price.

Also you gonna want to have at least a 1TB of storage as a starting point

The 390X is cheaper than the 980 with similar performance and more Vram so you could consider that as well to make the build cheaper.

i5.  assuming you want the unlocked processor for overclocking you need a h100/110 instead of the h60 and a g1 gaming 980.  That is all

Performs as good as the i5 in games, outperforms the FX in most of the few tasks where the FX beats the i5.

Yeah don't worry 500gb Is just a start. I'm buying the 980 second hand It's like a month and a half old , with no problems etc for £300.
