gta v lag gtx 970 i5 4690k

hey my pc is lagging when playing gta, its lagging a lot. here's a vid of my pc on a GOOD day:

 

 

 

it used to play just fine and drop below 20 fps and freeze a sec every now and then (ca every 1 minute in gta v) it was not fun but still it was playable, not what i want for such an expencive rig but i could bear it, and now i just cant anymore, the game freezes all the time and it can freeze up to a minute, the sound disappears and all that nasty sh*t u dont want to happen with a 3k rig. my 3d mark score went from 11.7k to 9.1k. and even better bf4 wont even open. i dont know what to do, all i know is that for what i paid for this is not OK. and no i didnt get ripped of i bought it from a buisiness. and really im about to just give up on this "amazing" desktop pc thing and sell it, just to go back to my crapy laptop, which only costed 500$ but still havent made me pissed off like the desktop have, i have had the desktop for ca 2 months and the laptop for 3 yrs FYI 

what do u think i should do?

btw i could run bf4 on ultra at 120 fps.

@dav, I think it may be time to do some system maintenance. This sounds like it could be a virus that's draining your resources.

Use your PC typically and have a look at your Performance in Task Manager. If you see something maxing out, you should be able to backtrack and iron out the issue. Makes sure of the following things:

• Motherboard and CPU drivers are up-to-date
• Nvidia drivers are up-to-date
• You have anti-virus installed (something like Avast!)
• Clean out your registry with something like CCleaner
• If you're not using an SSD (which you probably are) defrag your hard drive

If all else fails, back up important data, format your drives and do a fresh install of Windows. It sounds like a pain, but as you said, you spend this much money on a PC and you expect it to work.

If you still have problems after that, I'd take measures to find out if you have a hardware fault. 

If all is okay once Windows is back on and there are no performance drops, just keep a regular eye on system performance, and be diligent about what you install on your PC.

cores are stable

what windows does is it sets aside some power of the cores for use of other applications in the backround, put if you unpark them the game can use 100% of your cpu 

i mean it worked for me on bf4, gtav, and other games where i had micro and normal stutters and freezes.

i mean its worth a try right?

How much ram are you running? I know that this game can hog up 4GB pretty easy from what I've read.

so i did that, and it worked for a bit, now its back to lagging, FML

Rams fine, i have 8gb and it gets to about .5 left

 

@dav try going into nvidia control panel and changing 3d settings for GTA5.exe to maximum pre-rendered frames to 1 and power management to prefer maximum performance, it seems to help a little for me

I'd be more concerned with GPU usage while playing (watching for them drops), you do not need high CPU usage to get a CPU bottleneck, it just has to be outright slow in general no matter what usage to indicate it. 100% or not it can happen

 

I wouldn't be happy if i EVER saw my GPU under 95-100% without my intentional limiting. This is what I mainly look out for.

I had the same issue, got fed up and uninstalled the game. It was working fine at first then overtime it would start stuttering and lagging and every time I would play the time it took to start lagging would get shorter and shorter to the point where I play for 2 minutes then it becomes unplayable.

i have no issues running it max with my 970 and other people i know with 970's are running it fine too , i doubt this is the issue

Yeah my i5 is at 75-95% usage on all cores, and if I max out those advanced settings it can go higher.

Luckily my GPU usage does not drop with 95% CPU usage, only with the fully blown 100% does my FPS drop, to which I reduced the advanced settings and it was golden.

AVG may delete your user profile if you are not careful!
