To Vsync or not to Vsync

CalumGiff

Should i use vsync and accept the 30fps cap that it comes with on certain games or turn it off and play with full 60 fps?

What is your minimum, maximum and average fps?

Depends on the game, but I turn it off on every single game. unless I can't.

If framerate drops aren't noticeable to you, go for it. Personally, I limit my FPS to get a consistent image. I'd rather game at 40 FPS with no drops than game at 144 with drops down to 20.

only games i have it on are games like garrysmod and portal 2 where I get like 300fps and vsync is a must or else the tearing is unbearable.

i would suggest using MSI rivatuner, you can assign fps from 1 - 99 fps if turning v-sync only gives you 30 fps cap.

Depends on the type of game I'm playing. I go for no vsync on FPS games. But sometimes I turn it on in some slower paced games where there is no need for over 60 fps. It keeps my PC and laptop cool, doesn't force the hardware and keeps the fan noise down. :)

If you play at 60fps without vsync you'll play at 60fps with vsync.

I personally keep vsync enabled all the time. Screen tearing drives me insane in fullscreen mode, and disabling vsync in windowed mode often causes micro-stuttering since Windows "forces" vsync regardless.

I don't see a reason to use V-Sync for 30fps... I'd prefer runs it at 40, 50, ... than 30!

But... if a game is running like fps>60 all the time... I turn the V-sync on! There is no reason to GPU render 300 frames! 60 is enough.

Play in Windowed Fullscreen with V-sync disabled in game.  You get the best of both worlds, less input lag compared to V-sync and no screen tearing

But micro stutter if you can't keep 60fps

My r9 280 goes crazy with coil whine if I turn off v-sync in high fps games. Hey it was only $50, and 1 day used before I got it. I can live with it.
