Radeon R9 380 ASUS Strix Gaming 2GB benchmarks

zMeul

If I remember correctly didn't he say 380 is card for 1440p gaming during presentation. What games he was talking about then?  :P

Finally got PS4 Pro

I'm scratching my head here. they rebrand, slightly increase prices and except people to swallow it? BTW i kinda missed the e3 conference, are they going to phase out all 2xx cards? would be stupid if we were left with 8gb 390 series without 4 just for the sake of it, plus the price...

that's exactly why the GCN 1.0 cards should be snuffed out, not carried over

Why? 280x vs 285 is not a fair comparison, because the 280x has more raw power, 2048 vs 1792 strem cores. But even with this disadvantage, the 285/380 already equals or outperforms in newest games.

This review doesn't show the actual differences between both gpus, which is much smaller, and with dx12 Tonga will probably be better than Tahiti in general.

Build: CPU: Intel i5 4690k OC = 4.4Ghz | GPU: Gigabyte R9 285 OC = 1100/1575MHz | MB: MSI Z97M Gaming | RAM: Corsair 8GB 2133MHz CL9 | Storage: Crucial MX100 512GB Cooler: Thermaltake Frio Silent 14 | CaseCooltek U3 | PSU: Corsair RM550 | MonitorDell UltraSharp 2414h | Keyboard: Steelseries 6gv2 | Mouse: Corsair M95

FireStrike score = 7803. Graphic score = 9363 (record single r9 285).

the 380X should've existed, it does not!

the 380 with 2GB of VRAM is enough to take the place of Pitcairn (370)

and DX12 will be a very big problem for 370 since it will have to emulate specific DX12 features

lol their r9 2xx series is just rebranded hd 7xxx series cards

>thinks the 290/x is a rebrand

7000s are Tahiti, 290/x are Hawaii, get your facts straight.

I tbh, really don't the 960. Especially since it's $30 more than 280 here. If they gave it more VRAM and 192 bus, then we could've talked.

Yeah, keep bringing different topics to reply to me. What is 370 doing in a discussion of 280x vs 285/380?

The thing is, 280x is already showing its age and poor performance in some areas compared with the newer chip. So all these moaning about AMD launching a product that is beaten by a similar but older chip is kinda false.

That's light years behind 280x which it is supposed to replace, and sometimes losing to 960. Since 285 is not in the benchmarks I'm afraid to ask why.

Looks like it takes place of the 270

how exactly is it false since the 280X will outperform the 285 almost always; on top of that even has more VRAM

I dunno, maybe we should end it here until we'll have some more benchmarks - the source went down, not a good sign

Hm? Isn't 370 supposed to replace 270? 380 blows the 270. 280 vs 270 since the don't have 285 in there, and 285 beats 280.

I told you before a lot of games where the 285/380 equals or outperform the 280x. This "280x will outperform the 285 almost always" is false. I also told you it will be less true with dx12. And even I told you that review is quite meh because it compares both gpu only in games which favors the 280x.

Do you read what I say?

I reply to a lot of people on different topics and it's possible I miss something sometimes

280X not almost always better than 285? look at these benchmarks Anand made: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8460/amd-radeon-r9-285-review/7

or they cherry picked too?

are we done here? I really hope we are

The 960 should've came with 3GB  by default

The anandtech review you linked showed that 280x is 2-3 fps faster than 285. It's negligible in term of differences.

I ment on the charts, also anandtechs charts are a little out of date.

You bring a 9 month old review which was done just after the r9 285 was released, and drivers and a lot of games weren't optimized for Tonga.

And have gaps in the product line? No-way.

You obviously haven't seen the FX series line.

only the 360 and 370 are carried over from HD7xxx era

370 is GCN 1.0, while 360 is GCN 1.1

It still should not happen. They are almost 5 years old.

It's actually worse than that. I don't think anyone has caught on to the fact that the 370 is a rebadged R7 265 aka HD 7850. I really don't understand what AMD was thinking with the 370.

Well, is the 380 worth it?

I'm actually building a new pc and wanted to wait because of it but is it worth?

My options were:

  • R9 380
  • Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X
  • MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G

The 380 is quite a bit worse than your other two choices.  It will be similar to the R9 285/GTX 960.

...you will have to wait like all of us to see what it can/cannot do. ;)

It will sound stupid and i apologize in advance, but i dont understand one thing.

-Sites say that r9 280x is dx 12 capable, but not fully (like there is  a dx 12.0 and a 12.1 or something)

- the new r9 380 is fully dx 12,yes?

So will getting the r9 280x will prove  bad in the long run? Or will it run dx12 good and also get the performance that dx 12 brings?

I want to be able to run dx 12 games withoth problems. So with that in mind is the r9 280 x with 3gb vram better?
