So I just moved into a loft apartment and my cousin moved in with me. We both just picked up Lenovo Y50s from Best Buy and set them up next to each other as we have started steaming Minecraft together. Anyway, he's a tech and knows a lot about computer but he asked why I always had stuff opened before him and I just told him windows r. He was like "I haven't used that in years" so that got me thinking...

Anyone use run (windows + r) anymore? If so, is it all the time? When trying to get to something without looking? Because the start menu and modern ui isn't you groove? (lol)

Edit:

Here is why I think it is fast, say you are trying to open the Character Map. All you have to do is: Window + R enter: charmap.exe done

I use it sometimes. Usually to open Disk Management or Disk Defragementer or Device Manager. I prefer the Start screen or menu to open the command prompt, as I can press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open it with admin rights.

Nope, I rarely use Run (mostly use it for AppData, cmd, msconfig). Anything I use a lot I keep pinned to my taskbar or the main menu on Windows for easy access.

for linux if it isn't on my panel I do bring up the terminal and type out the name or click one of my custom desktop launchers. That's as close as I get to this. haha

i use it quite often especially when i'm on somebody else's computer

i'm "the guy who fixes computers" at work, and when you're working on the computer of somebody else it's really tedious to search through all the crap they keep on the desktop just to find excel, so it's much much easier and faster to windows+R it. the same goes for cmd, notepad, msconfig, all the things that you can run without searching the start menu, or without waiting for windows to find it when you type in the search box (because non-techies computers are painfully slow)

it's especially fast if you're used to use mostly the keyboard instead of the mouse (and your workflow allows you to not use the mouse)
