Decent-ish macro lens for Rebel T5

So, I'm thinking about saving up for a Rebel T5 later on down the line, and I would like to do similar shots as what LMG does for products with the focus. I'm kind of a newb when it comes to SLRs/DSLRs (or really cameras in general). I guess $120 is a good target price, so I'll let you more knowledgeable folk do what you do.

I dont know much either but i do know 120 isnt gunna get you anywhere, but for the cool focus shots look for a super low f/stop number, like 1 or less

Current Build: Desk

My case is my most expensive part

Its Almost 2015 and I don't have an SSD

I don't think you are going to find any lens for $120, let alone one aimed at Macros, which is a fairly specialized field. $300 and you might be able to pick up something like the Canon 60mm macro used, which is a very good lens.

Else you have to try other techniques - something like an extension tube. Or take the lens off the camera and hold it closer to the subject.

You can get pretty close with the standard 18-55 kit lens.  the "nifty fifty" (aka the 50mm f/1.8)  is surprisingly good, and is in your $120 price range.  You can get some very nice background blur with that lens.

And the the poor-man macro solution- get a reverse mount ring.  It's a little ring that lets you mount your lens backwards, which gives you crazy magnification up close (especially when using a wide angle lens).

Sadly, I actually knew what you were referencing with the nifty-fifty terminology (just didn't know it was f/1.8). :P

I'll go ahead and take a look at some of those.

That's used. If you think computers are an expensive hobby, wait until you get started with photography. You'll be in massive debt forever if you want to do videography :P

There are workarounds, either an extension tube or a reverse mount will work in a pinch, but they aren't a real substitute to a proper macro lens. And by the time you've shelled out for a lens, reverse mount or extension tube you're halfway towards a proper.

The 50mm lens is a great all rounder, but I've never had it be able to do what I want in a macro environment.

50 f1.8 is probably your best bet for a canon DSLR, (well in that price bracket anyway)

just  bear in mind on your t5 it will end up as an 80mm ish lens due to the crop factor

There's a new 50mm 1.8 on the horizon right now that I'm considering as well. B&H has them on preorder for 125USD. http://www.dpreview.com/articles/3611651742/canon-announces-50mm-f1-8-stm-lens. The specs say it can focus a little closer than its predecessor.

As ShadowCaptain said 50mm will equate to 80 on a crop sensor.

i would go with the 50mm 1.8 and some macro filter's that's what i do when i need to get some macro shot's, the field of depth get's very tiny altough it does quite the job and is perfect for studio like envoirments, for nature macro shot's it's nearly impossible though because the filter's.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.
