2x 980 vs Titan X

Both make exactly 0 sense for 1080p. Get a 970.

-edit-

sorry I hadn't noticed you said surround. They're still not a good choice, two 970s will be perfect. Or an r9 295x2.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Two 980s really isn't needed, I think you could get away with one overclocked 980, or even two 970s.

Two 980's will give you higher raw horse power.

But the Titan X will perform better in games where SLI is a bit finicky. And you also have that glorious 12 GB of VRAM.

He did mention surround so 5760x1080 would be my guess.

2 x 980s would serve you better than a Titan X but either one is still a lot of horsepower. At this point there isn't really a 'best' as its all up to opinion because both are insanely powerful for surround 1080p.  Also this should be posted in the Graphics Card section.

Titan X as you won't have SLI nonsense.

As someone that has been using SLI for years now, SLI issues are 99% of the time user error. I've never had any problems with scaling, or any issues non SLI users think exist.

Any games that don't support SLI usually don't need it either because they're outdated.

Doesn't really make sense from a performance perspective, 980 SLI walks all over a Titan X.

He wants surround so he needs extra power, 970 sli would be a good fit.

OP out of what you listed I would say single Titan X but I think 970 sli would be a better fit for you

hmm. interesting. I've never personally used SLI, so this is good to know.

the only issue I'd be worried about it stuttering. you don't have any of that?

Never had any with my 780 SLI, or my 970 SLI.  Nor have any of my friends, I believe 3 of them have 780 SLI.

IMO SLI has come a REALLY long way, everything has been fixed for the most part, there are some small driver problems every once and a while, but rolling back to a different driver isn't hard at all.

I have since sold my 970 SLI though, looking at getting 780 TI SLI, or keeping some money for a custom loop with my single 780 TI right now.

If you have the money, 980 SLI will be the best performing, if you want to save some money and upgrade in a few years, 970 SLI.

Dual 980's.

I run a single 970 for triple monitor surround. ESO I can run on ultra, but games like GTA 5, BF Hardline, I can run on semi-high but doesn't do that great. I've tried Dying Light, had to dial it back to medium-ish. I'm tempted to try and run Metro Last Light, but I'm afraid my GPU will catch on fire lol

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

295x2 is much cheaper and more than enough.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.
