other than speed, I dont see an issue.

be 100% fine. just as a red or blue would be. purples just pritozie writes over reads.  its just a firmware thing, the physical drive is identical

The firmware for a purple drive causes the reader head to zigzag back and forth to increase write speeds, but read speeds will be slower. Pretty sure defragging the drive will correct that after the fact.

Thanks for reply and Could You explain how defragging will correct it?

I would assume the same way a normal drive would defrag, but now that I think of it I could be wrong.

I would suggest getting a wd blue or black. purple is designed for writing a crap ton and only being referenced when something bad happens. like was, WD red is designed for being shoved in a large aray of drive and has a bit higher tolerance when it comes to read and write limits. WD black is faster than blue. WD blue is mid level and is faster than green. WD green is slow and im not sure why they have it.

so just get a WD blue or black.

I personally have my games stored on a WD black and everything is fine. if you are super concerned about speeds, i would suggest getting an ssd.

I actually love my green drive. I store my games on it, when I'm not gaming my PC is 100% silentsilent because the drive stops spinning. Even putting my head basically inside of my case I hear zero noise. Only time its spinning is in games, and my GPU has to speed up a bit so that noise doesn't matter.

Its amazing if you want silence And have a ssd. My last PC Was just 840 evos, now I run a 850 evo with a green driIve

It should be fine, but @Captain_WD will know more.

HDD have come a long way in the last 10 years from the hot noisy things that didn't last too long.

Yes.

even greens are also fine for most games, and a purple is just a better binned green from memory. the difference between 5400rpm and 7200rpm hdds isn't really noticable. HDD->SSD you will notice.

Hey warnat,

WD Purple has optimized writing speeds, special error correction features and is generally developed and tuned for DVR and other surveillance systems. It can work, but there may be some data corruption due to the error correction feature of the drive that is designed to record videos with no frame losses.
As it was suggested, I would look into WD Blue and WD Black drives as they are more appropriate for what you are looking for. :)

Thanks @ for mentioning :) I can't get notifications from mentions so if anyone needs me, feelfree to PS me or drop a line on the profile.
