Nokia to make new Android phone in 2016

Guest

Recently we heard rumors about alleged Nokia plans for re-entering the phone market in 2016. We are happy to report those plans are indeed true and Nokia will be marking its return next year with an Android smartphone.

Nokia sold its device business to Microsoft a year ago and it signed a non-compete clause preventing the company from producing smartphones under the Nokia brand until December 31, 2015 and feature phones under the Nokia brand for a decade.

Nokia used wisely these non-compete clauses and outed the powerful Nokia N1 tablet early this year. The N1 is designed by Nokia, including its Z Launcher for Android, but the rights for the branding, manufacturing, marketing and distributions were licensed to Foxconn.

The President of Nokia China confirmed Nokia is working on Android powered smartphones, which will be probably manufactured in factories in Sichuan, China (after further assessment) and will be launched in 2016. He also sheds some light on company's future - the Nokia's R&D center will permanently relocate to Sichuan, China.

Interesting..... Not that I like Nokia that much, but their products do generally have a good reputation.

Hopefully this will add another flagship phone to 2016 and onwards, instead of the usual HTC, Samsung and LG known flagship phones(these are the most known I assume)

Maybe Nokia can get in there too and get ready to rumble.

All I hope for is the back of the phone being flush and not having a giant camera piece sticking out of it.

Always trying to find reason.

I'm sorry, but screw you Nokia. I will in no way support an Android phone from this company. It will become obsolete the day before release.

The only phone brands I've used all my life are Nokia and pre-android Motorola. It's the only 2 brands that I trust their quality with. Now still happily using a Nokia Lumia 925. Though I won't be switching to any android based phone anytime soon as I love my WP os.

I wonder if they are going to stick to their own version of android like the Asha line-up or follow just like other manufacturers coz that would be quite a tough market to compete with the likes of Samsung, HTC etc2?

Now a windows flagship is what i'd like. Preferably with a removable battery.

I read 2016 and thought, eh that is way in the future and then realized that is less than a year, I feel like I am starting to get old. I would like to see a Nokia flag ship, their phones tend to have good cameras and build quality but were held back by their OS support. This might finally make them competitive.

And they're very quick to shoot down any idea of that happening.

Nokia notes recent news reports claiming the company communicated an intention to manufacture consumer handsets out of a R&D facility in China. These reports are false, and include comments incorrectly attributed to a Nokia Networks executive. Nokia reiterates it currently has no plans to manufacture or sell consumer handsets.
