Fairly new to the gaming scene and looking for a good entry-level ($30-$60) gaming mouse - suggestions?

I'm fairly new to the PC gaming scene, at least to games that require some level of precision (CS:GO, TF2, Torchlight 2, LoL) and currently have a Logitech M305 wireless mouse. It's been great...but it's not a gaming mouse and I'm really seeing the need for a better mouse.

 

However, I've never really looked into mice before and don't know a whole lot about what's good & what's not. Basically, all I know is that Omron (is that right?) switches are the good ones, optical is better than laser, and that Logitech makes really good mice.

 

There are a few names I recognize or have looked into getting, but I, again, don't know for sure what would be best for the price. A couple of mice I've looked at include the Logitech G502, G402, eBlue Mazer II (cheaper, but seems to have good reviews,) and the Corsair M60, M65, M90.

 

I mostly play CS:GO, but enjoy the occasional game of LoL or some Torchlight 2, so multiple buttons doesn't hurt. The biggest thing in my case would be best quality for the money. I'd prefer to keep the price closer to the $30-$40 part of my $30-$60 spectrum, but I'd be willing to pay more if there is really a big performance increase.

 

Basically, I'm a n00b when it comes to mice, want to play games that require precision (and thus higher DPI/CPI on the mouse), and don't want to spend more than $60 on the mouse. Does anyone have any suggestions?

however the G302 (or even the 402) are just as good if you do not need the bells and whistles !!!

Is there a difference (other than esthetics & $20 price difference) between the G402 & G400s? Is one more optimized for a game type than the other? I personally prefer the design of the G402 over the G400s...

The G400s is an update of the G400 - both are older generation mice (still good but still)

 

The 502 has more features than the G402 more buttons, more DPI options and programmability, interchangeable weights (think the 402 has this too) etc

nobody wants A4tech nowadays but they are too damn good when comes to optical tech and dpi precision anti wiggle stabilization tech.

If you can do Massdrop you should hop on the Mionix Naos 7000 drop. Although I've heard it might take a quite bit of time to actually ship.

Mionix NAOS 7000 is on Massdrop right now for like half off.

I've been using Logitech peripherals for over a decade.  Lots of mice have come and gone in my 15 years of PC gaming.  The two I still have, that still work?  Both are Logitech (9 year old G5 corded, 7 year old MX1100 wireless).  I don't know if the products they make today will stand up the same to the test of time but I'd be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

That doesn't mean that some of these newer companies don't also make a quality product...  some probably do and some probably don't.  While you could probably waste that sort of money if you shopped specifically for the most expensive brick you could find (read reviews), most of the mice in that price range are going to be quite good.

Thanks, I'd never been entirely sure which grip I was - those pictures helped. I think I have a finger-tip grip (or maybe a hybrid finger-tip/palm grip).

 

As for hand size, I definitely do not have large hands. That said, they aren't china doll ones either, so I've probably got medium-ish hands. Not really sure what to compare that against.

 

Buttons on the side really aren't terribly important. I wouldn't mind having the forward/back buttons and maybe 2/3 extra ones - but I don't game terribly often and when I do it tends to be FPSes as opposed to games like LoL or Torchlight 2 - so side buttons aren't a must.

Does a Logitech G502 sound right to ya? Fits your qualifications. Also, the Mionix has some QC issues so I would avoid them for now.

Well, I'll definitely look into it. It's a bit more than I'd want to spend (I'd prefer to stay to the $30-$45 spectrum) and I'm not entirely sold on the design, but it does seem to come highly recommended. Would there be any reason for me to choose the G502 over the G402?

I've used Naos 7000 as my daily driver for over a year now and its easily the best mouse I've ever tried. I do have big hands though, and the Naos shell is more shaped towards palm and claw grips. For fingertip grip you'd probably want a smaller mouse, or an ambidextrous shaped one like Mionix Avior 7000, Logitech G303, Zowie AM/FK or CM Storm Spawn.

A common issue with laser sensors like the one in M65 is a small amount of acceleration (or variance), meaning you might sometimes overshoot or undershoot your cursor. For normal desktop use and casual gaming its not that noticeable, but for any serious gaming where muscle memory is used (most notably FPS games) it can be a huge disadvantage. However, Corsair has a superior optical versions of both M65 and Sabre: M45 and Sabre Optical.

The Quality control on the Mionix is pretty bad. Not the best quality
