A lot of people seem to be really triggered by them but Nick said that they're doing this to remain competitive in a landscape where the cold hard facts are that these kinds of thumbnails get clicks and others don't

@Ryan_Vickers Where did Nick Light posted that? But I do understand that they have to stand out and reach more people. Besides, it seems to be working. More people whining & bitching in the comments, more views there is, more ad sense revenue for LMG. ?

If you uploaded the link to your profile pic, that image will always remain updated (I guess).  You'd have to directly link to a static source.
