I Got $2500 To Spend In 2016

Alright this might be an odd question but for my 16 birthday my parents give it one last hurrah before they stop giving me gifts and I get to spend $2500. My birthday is in August and I will turn 16 in 2016. I want to build an awesome rig that will last me until I finish college. I am hoping to use Skylake and the Nvidia Pascal chip when that comes out but do you guys think I should buy the AMD 390X when it comes out and keep it in my current rig until I build my new one and save on a graphics card? With that money too I could buy a laptop I also need for college, but I could by that senior year with my own money. What do you guys think, build an amazing PC with mostly max stuff like DDR4, Skylake, 32 Gb RAM, SSD, 4K monitor, and a new GPU that support HBM? I have a GTX760 right now and I just want to play GTA V at medium 60 FPS. I don't know if I should buy a new graphics card or use the money I have been saving to build an even more epic $3500 gaming PC or $3000. All I know is that is the most I am probably ever going to spend on a PC, well until I have a set career that pays well.

Alright this might be an odd question but for my 16 birthday my parents give it one last hurrah before they stop giving me gifts and I get to spend $2500. My birthday is in August and I will turn 16 in 2016. I want to build an awesome rig that will last me until I finish college. I am hoping to use Skylake and the Nvidia Pascal chip when that comes out but do you guys think I should buy the AMD 390X when it comes out and keep it in my current rig until I build my new one and save on a graphics card? With that money too I could buy a laptop I also need for college, but I could by that senior year with my own money. What do you guys think, build an amazing PC with mostly max stuff like DDR4, Skylake, 32 Gb RAM, SSD, 4K monitor, and a new GPU that support HBM? I have a GTX760 right now and I just want to play GTA V at medium 60 FPS. I don't know if I should buy a new graphics card or use the money I have been saving to build an even more epic $3500 gaming PC or $3000. All I know is that is the most I am probably ever going to spend on a PC, well until I have a set career that pays well.

Never thought of that. I could just get a laptop for college and save the rest in the bank. Then when the current PC I have will probably be super slow by the time I graduate then I can build a new one when I get a job and figure my life out.

Never thought of that. I could just get a laptop for college and save the rest in the bank. Then when the current PC I have will probably be super slow by the time I graduate then I can build a new one when I get a job and figure my life out.

as long as the laptop has an sdd it shouldn't "Get slow"

Well they have to stop at some point. When I mean stop too I don't mean completely stop, they still will get me little gifts every year but nothing major.

Alright guys I think I will do this. I think paying off student loans faster is better than a nice computer. Unless I get a job that requires a nice PC for CAD or rendering.

If you get a job they might give you your own PC. Paying off student loans quicker is a joy trust me. I'm a current college students and I just want to find a job and pay them off right now.

I am only a freshman but I still want to get my life planned out for college and what to do. Mostly due to my sister being a senior and she still hasn't chosen and she has like 5 days left to choose.

You're 16, savings are priceless when you're on your own.

 

Couldn't agree more, or buy a car. Having your own transport could be one of the best investments of your life.

 

I've had my driving licence for almost 7 years and it is the best thing I've ever done.

 

EDIT: Just looked at your current system and to be honest mate, upgrade the video card and just stick with that but then again the GTX 760 is a fine card so save teh money and change nothing.

Wow. All I know is I want to use computers in my everyday job but not in a boring way like at an office doing spreadsheets.

Yeah. Me I have a passion for hardware and I just want to work with my hands because I love doing that.

I would either buy a car with 2500, or i would get a laptop and put the leftovers in a high interest savings account.

 

I actually did that and it has saved me a couple times already when I was short on cash. It's like emergency money, only when you absolutely need it.

I'll say this OP... saving now, spending when you have consistent money is the way to go. There were times in most of our lives when we want something, but knew it's not important. Money management is imperative. I know I sound like an old man, but it's true.
